I'm suggesting a bit of research for the schedules at House of Blues and at Howlin' Wolf. If you can catch Cowboy Mouth (local band, tours nationally) at the Howlin' Wolf, you're in for a treat.
Maspero's, Johnny's, Gumbo Shoppe... for casual dining.

I think you asked for some ideas not whether you needed to be intently educated, so your ideas sound great, especially the swamp tour because I did it there and it was a blast (choose a small group boat and ask the guy to go real fast!). NOLA does have a tendency to smell like vomit and piss during the hot seasons, because the city is truly nasty, but have fun, take some caffeine if you go to the museums and of course, do what you are supposed to do on honeymoon, practice making babies!

Do the cemetary tour...also, there are some haunted street tours at night...after a hurricane or two, it's kind of fun!
You could get your palm read....every where in the plaza. Interesting times...
Do you like crawfish?
Also, Emeril has a restaurant in town...

We did the Haunted History Tour the first time we went...my husband and I both loved it and thought it was great fun! Also enjoyed a cemetery tour, the 1850 house, and Hermann-Grima House, in addition to the other attractions already mentioned. Gallier House was one of my least favorites, but was still very interesting.
Hubby loves to partake in the hot dog stands on Bourbon, I guess they taste really good after a few drinks. Try the "Hand Grenade" (& if you can figure out the ingredients please let me know!)
Have a wonderful trip!

We have made about 8 visits to New Orleans in the past few years and have 2 restaurants which are always on our list--Commander's for brunch (we have had only wonderful experiences and prefer it to dinner there) and Uglesich's for oysters at lunch. It's a real dive and you have to wait in line (go early), but definitely worth the wait. We time our arrival and departure around these two. Brigtsen's is another favorite, for dinner. If you really want to splurge and feel pampered, we love the restaurant in the Windsor Court Hotel.
As for things to do, you will definitely run out of time!
I, too, vote for swamp tour, garden district and cemetery tours, as well as plantations--some of them are closer than others.
While the DDay Museum isn't romantic, it is an incredibly interesting and well-done museum, which does a great job of presenting the history as well as the personal stories (from all sides).
We love NOMA (the museum of art) as well. It's small and "doable" and has a sculpture garden (about a year old) in a lovely setting. Not far from it is a great cafe for lunch (another we usually try to squeeze in)--I believe it's the Degas cafe on Tchoupitoulas.

You must go on a swamp tour, but NOT on an airboat(too loud and obnoxious)or one of the big boats. We went with Pearl River Eco-Tours on a small boat that took us deep into the swamp. It was a blast. Capt. Neil was very knowledgeable and the alligators, nutria, turtles, etc. came very close to the boat. They were also able to pick-up us at our hotel in New Orleans. And, they let us use one of their canoes to paddle around the swamp in for free. We had a great time. They offered a Tour of the City, Plantation, and Swamp Tour package. I have their web address. www.pearlriverecotours.com

Looks as though there will have to be a change of plans. I truly appreciate all your thoughts on both the threads that I started. Despite all the planning and weighing of your comments, it seems Mother Nature has the last remark. My fiance and I are now in the process of finding an alternative honeymoon destination. I'm not certain what we'll do, but we'll have to make the best of the situation.
Thanks again, Rob

ditto--
Ggood luck to New Orleans as well. May the storm not be a direct hit, may people have gotten out, may the Superdome hold for all those inside, and may there be a wonderful city for all to come home to.
