I am perplexed by Mainer's intrique with Donna's summer theatre comment. I think most New England summer-tourist communities have lots of these types of places: Current hits and traditional favorites with lead roles played by "stars" and smaller roles played by the local community company. They are closed for the season, but in Maine the Ogunquite Playhouse and the Arundel Playhouse come immediately to mind. On the Cape it's the "music theatres" "in the round" (although these have pretty much gone the way of "concerts"). There are lots in NH too, such as The Barn Playhouse in New London and the Eastern Slope Playhouse in No. Conway . The "season" usually runs mid-June to Labor Day. For year-found professional performances, those of us in this area think of Boston, right? I've also seen many wonderful performances at The Palace theatre in Manchester, NH and have heard great things about what's available in Portsmouth, NH. Mainer, are you looking to audition?
