Honeymoon in Maine suggestions
My husband and I are driving the coast of Maine the last week in August for our honeymoon. Thus far, we have planned to stay at the White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport, The Inn at Sunrise Point in Camden and The Inn at Canoe Point in Hull's Cove. Has anyone stayed at any of these places? Can Fodorites suggest what we shouldn't miss on our trip? Do you have a favourite national park, boat excursion, village, lobster pound, or harbour that should be on our itinerary? Thanks in advance for your help.

Congratulations on your marriage and on your decision to spend your honeymoon in Maine. We are a family of Southerners who hold the state near and dear! Your choices seem excellent, especially the Inn at Canoe Point, which is high on our list of places to stay when our kids are grown. Acadia National Park is exquisite and great for hiking, from easy to extreme. Sunset on top of Cadillac Mountain is one of the most romantic spots anywhere (even with kids along!). Whale watching is terrific that time of year out of Bar Harbor. There is a great place to eat cheaply right on the harbor in Bar Harbor. Don't remember the name but they serve what they themselves caught that day and then you eat it outside on top of the building. Terrific food and view. Also, don't miss Jordan Pond House ice cream and popovers. Enjoy!

Those are, indeed, the best of the best places! When you arrive in each town, just collect the fabulous tourist literature for excursions that appeal to you. You may want to pick up the booklet with driving directions to all the lighthouses - awesome! From Kennebunkport, be sure to spend a day in Ogunquit and walk the Marginal Way. There are boat excursions everywhere.

My favorite place is Pemaquid Point -- with lovely Pemaquid Light (by moonlight on the rocks) and nearby Bradley Inn -- great restaurant, charming inn, eager owners, nice rooms -- esp. on top floor.
Five of my stars for food, atmosphere, romantic seclusion (don't know of many other inns from which you can walk to a scenic lighthouse).

I am writing only to tell you that I have stayed at the White Barn Inn and absolutely loved it. At first I was taken back by the size of our room. It was small but really lovely. And added to the atmosphere, the food, the unbelieveable service, it was without a doubt a fabulous experience. You will love it. You must make dinner reservations before you go. The dining room is an experience in itself. Have a great time!
