Honeymoon in Hawaii
Hi Everyone:
We are thinking about honeymooning in Hawaii for two weeks in July of 2001. We plan to go to Oahu for a three days, Kauai for six days and Maui for six days. Can anyone recommend a good hotel on any of these islands. I would like beautiful grounds, nice beach, romantic atmosphere, well appointed rooms, and minimal children. I've looked into many hotels on the internet, but haven't been able to get any real opinions from people who have been there.
Thank you!
Kristy

Hi Kristy. I haven't been there yet; I'll let you know in October how it was. But I can tell you that I did a ton of research on this forum and elsewhere, and we have reservations on Maui at the Renaissance Wailea (entertainment rate of $155 per night for garden view) and on Kauai at the Hanalei Bay (entertainment rate of $85 per night for mountain view). These hotels came highly recommended and well reviewed, and the prices were better than some other hotels that didn't sound nearly as good to us. See what you think. By the way, Travelocity traveler's network has reviews from several people who've stayed at the hotels: http://dest.travelocity.com/Network/...LOCITY,00.html

We went to Maui and Kauai in '95 on our honeymoon. We stayed in a condo called the Whaler in Maui. Nothing fancy, but right on Kaanapali (sp?) beach. The place we stayed in Kauai, however, was wonderful. It was also a condo called Lae Nani. Large room overlooking beautiful pool beach right beyond pool. Very reasonable. It's in Kapaa the brochure (which I just dug out) gives an 800# 800-367-7052. You'll have a great time!!!

We went to Kauai for our honeymoon in 98 and went back to Kauai and to Maui less than a year ago.
We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu for two nights as the Hyatt was undergoing renovations at the time we were there. We really would have preferred the Hyatt but the Hilton was okay. Since we were honeymooning, we were upgraded to an ocean view room. It's a nice complex but very crowded, expensive and we felt uncomfortable there. There was a lot of pandering to the upscale Japanese tourist at the time with many upscale shops and restaurants. The room was very nice and I liked the automatic shut off of the a/c if you kept the lanai doors open. It's right on Waikiki Beach.
On Kauai, we stayed at the Hyatt twice and I have nothing but raves for the place. It's very comfortable. Not inexpensive by any means but we felt it was worth the money we spent. We walked the beach by the hotel (Shipwreck) but for snorkeling, we headed to the north shore. There were children there but there must be something in the water because we never really noticed children on either trip. These were very well behaved children and the parents were most attentive. The place was crawling with rugrats but it wasn't devoid of them either.
We walked through both the Princevilel Resort and the Marriott. We thought both were lovely and on a future trip, we may spend a night or two at Princeville just for the location (although it's run by Starwood and we are avoiding their properties) but otherwise, we'd be happy with the Hyatt again.
On Maui, we stayed at the Sheraton because the Hyatt didn't have availability for all of our dates. While the ideas are good at the Sheraton, the execution is horrible. We found the staff to be rude and inattentive and we also ran into numerous facilities problems due to lack of proper planning on the part of the architects. Based upon our experiences at this hotel as well as with Starwood Preferred Guest customer service, my husband and I are putting our money where our mouth is and not staying in Starwood properties.
No matter where you stay, you're sure to have a marvelous time.
