My fiance and I are planning a honeymoon in Hawaii for Novemer 1999. We are thinking of visiting 2-3 islands. We definitely want to see Maui and Kauai, but are not sure about Big Island. We will there for 17 nights. We want to stay at the Four Seasons in Maui and at the Princeville in Kauai. Should we just split the trip 9 nights in Maui and 7 nights in Kauai? Or should we take time out to visit Big Island? We don't really like "hopping around" on our vacations and are not looking for too much nightlife. What would be the ideal split for a 17 day trip?

Katia, congratulations and a nice delemma. We are headed back for our 8th trip and I would recommend including the BI as a stop. This year we are going to the BI And Maui. We always include Maui and at least 1 other island. My recommendation is:
Maui- 8 nites
Kauai- 5 nites
BI - 4 nites
The resorts on the Kohala Coast are some of the nicest overall in the islands. Check out the Mauna Lani, especially thje villas that go for $3,500 per nite.
My wife now measures all hotel sagainst the Mauna Lani. It's the best hotel we've ever stayed at in Hawaii.
On Kauai definatly do the Helicopter ride, it's far superior to either Maui or BI(except fro the active volcano). Lot's of great restaurants on all the islands and don't try to see everything.
You'll want a couple of reasons to go back.

We just got back from the big island. If money isn't a problem (sounds like its not) the Four Seasons at Hualalai on the Big Island is very nice. They have a casual restaurant, the Beach Tree, right on the sand that has great food. There is no nightlife on the big island, but you can find good restaurants (most close by 9 PM). Lots to see and do during the day: snorkelling, botanical garden, hiking, volcano, golf, fishing. We spent a week there and didn't do everything we wanted to.

You may want to consider the Kauai Hyatt in Poipu. We were debating between the Hyatt and Princeville when we honeymooned last year, and we were very glad we chose the Hyatt. This is probably the very niced hotel I've ever been to! While we were at the Hyatt, there were quite a few people who were staying at the Princeville that ended up checking out of that resort and coming to the Hyatt due to lousy weather. We visited the Princeville resort and had brunch there and it was wonderful. But, I didn't care for the hotel at all and was very glad we had chosen the Hyatt.
