i've said it a million times since i got back from my honeymoon on 10/27/99, stay at Kona Village on the big island.
it is 3 meals a day inclusive, excellent food, service is attentive but not annoyingly so, every room is like a thatched roof hut, so no big buildings anywhere, you are almost always outside or in rooms with somany windows you feel like you are! and it is relatively small, so it is not at all like the mega all inclusives in the caribbean. also, no phones, no tv, no clocks anywhere...it is paradise. and if you are willing to spend $$ go for the deluxe or higher level of rooms, the rooms get significantly better as you go higher. and stay in the Lave or ocean section, not the pond section...those rooms are much older. they have a website...konavillage.com

It's not easy to choose, esp. if you're willing to spend money, because there are so many beautiful places in Hawaii. For my 2 cents worth, my husband and I honeymooned at the Hyatt Regency Kauai in 1995--spectacular place--much nicer than a typical Hyatt resort, yet on the large side. We had lunch at the rinceville hotel which is also beautiful and luxurious, but on the rainer north side of the island. On Maui we stayed at the Hotel Hana-Maui, which was incredible, very private and peaceful. I don't know how well it has fared in the last few years, so I would ask more recent visitors (I heard it has changed management since I was there.)

You must definitely go to Kauai. My husband and I stayed at the Shertaon Kauai for our honeymoon in September. We had an absolutely wonderful time - it is so beautiful there. We also went to Waikiki and Maui. Waikiki is more city-like and Maui was somewhere in between Kauai and Waikiki. Maui was nice too but not as great as Kauai. Have a great time!

We honeymooned in Maui for 10 days in May 99. It was fabulous... I've heard wonderful things about Kauai as well. If $$ is no object, I would stay at the Grand Wailea on Maui. It has one of the best spas in the world, which we took full advantage of after the stress of planning a wedding! Also, the Hyatt and Westin on Maui are beautiful.... and actually closer to the town of Lahaina where many of the shops and restaurants are located. You will have a much needed, very relaxing vacation. Best wishes!
