Honeymoon-Driving from PA
We have a family member who will be married in July 2006. She and her fiance are on a limited budget and are looking for something more quiet than touristy. Mackinac Island was mentioned as a nice destination. Any other suggestions?

I'd suggest somewhere in New England, away from the coast.
I was stationed in upper Michigan many years ago, and I can tell you that it's 800 miles from central PA to that Mackinac area.
There's a lot of quaint in New England, and it's closer...

If you go north, Vermont has some very nice inns. The Adirondacks would have lake resorts that would be relatively inexpensive to rent a cottage. If you drive up to Lake Placid, there is the Mirror Lake Inn which is nice. If you drive south, the Blue Ridge Mountains would be a nice getaway. I would head to the mountains or lakes. The ocean communities will be pricier and more touristy. There are the resorts, The Homestead in VA or The Greenbriar in WV. These are luxurious and pricey, but sometimes that have special deals. The prices include your room, breakfast and dinner. The dinner hour has dancing to live music. If you stay there mid week it is also less expensive. I think the Homestead is cheaper. Good luck
