Hilton Head in the spring

What is the best time in spring to go to Hilton Head? Do they get much humidity there, and if so, when does the humidity kick in? (We went to Williamsburg in late May and were surprised to find it already hot and humid!)

Full-throttle humidity will be in force during the summer months-June, July, and August.

April is a great time to visit South Carolina. Just remember to check the calendar. Many schools up north take their spring break around Easter.

Here's a link to great "break" calendar someone sent me (it has many colleges' breaks listed):

What? Hot and humid in the South? Shut my mouth, lol.

Do you want to swim in the ocean, or just look at it? In April the water is still somewhat chilly.

OGE's answer is perfect. I was there once in April and lite jackets were necessary but it's typically a great montyh.

We went--one time only at very beginning of May, so weather may or may not have been typical---but it was sultry w/o being oppressive, but definitely what I would call summer weather. Very good for poolside and definitely beach weather.

Having lived on the island for 28 years, my recommendation is May and October for weather.

I agree w/DRJ. I've lived here 17 years and October is always my favorite month...but May is great too.!

If you are earlier than April in HHI, the beaches might not yet be cleaned of the winter accululation of detrius and the grass on the golf courses can still be dormant.

Depending on spring break timing, the gap between the Harbor Town golf tournament and June 1 is an excellent window.

In March the Azaleas come out! Savannah has an open house home/garden tour in late March, too, IIRC. (They also started having one in December, for Xmas, a year or so ago...)
