Hilton Head and Savannah

On Hilton Head, try the Old Fort Inn(?). It's located inside one of the big golf developments, but good food with a great view. There's also a great German restaurant near the middle of the island, but I don't remember its name either.
In Savannah, try the Pirate's House for good Southern and coastal food. Sunday buffet is scrumptous. It also has a ghost, great atmosphere. For more upscale (expensive), the Boar's Head on the riverfront is comfortable and the service is top-notch.
But the trip to Savannah is not even worth it unless you've read "Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil," the book, not the movie.
Have fun.
Try to stay at the East Bay Inn

Hilton Head is a good choice. Spent a week there a couple of years ago and am going there next week. We loved riding bikes on the beach and walking on the many paved walking trails. One thing to realize is that they have strict tree cutting guidelines for beautification so you will have to look though and behind the trees to find anything. We sort of made it a game. Also Hilton Head is broken up into plantations (resorts). Each one behind is a guard or gate so exploring the Island can be a little difficult. However the plantations don't take up the whole island. Sea Pines Plantation at the "toe" of the island is accessable for a $3.00 fee per car. Or something close to that. It's worth paying if you like golf courses and lighthouses. They also have a very nice kids play area near the lighthouse. About Savannah. I would suggest that you take a trolly tour. This will show you most of the historic area of Savannah, including the bench that Forest Gump sat on. The tours start from the old train station. You may also want to consider a side trip to Charleston, SC. Charleston has a larger historic area and a bit more to see. They have some absolutely gorgeous old houses. I should probably say mansions. If you like ships or submarines, they have about 3 or 4 docked that you can tour. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

We're headed to HH, Savannah and Charleston on Saturday. Been there five or six times now, and always find something new to love. As for eating on the Island, we've also eaten at the Old Fort ... very nice. It's in the Hilton Head Plantation . You will go through a gate/guard, and I can tell you that when they give you permission to visit the restaurant only, they mean it. After enjoying our meal, we decided to stop at some pond on our way back to the gate, and we had two security guards on our bumper as soon as we turned onto the dirt road. Good for the residents, I suppose, but not for nosey tourists! Also, we always make time to eat at the Santa Fe Cafe which is off the main route slightly beyond Port Royal Plantation. It's small, but the service has always been good, and I love the smell of mesquite when we walk in (their mashed potatoes with green or red chilies are a must!) As for Savannah, we have a friend who makes it a point to stop at Elizabeths' on 37th Street for dinner on his way home to Ohio from the Daytona Races each year. We plan to eat there on this trip just to see what all the fuss is about! In Charleston, I recommend SNOBs (Slightly North of Broad) in the Historic District. We had a great meal there (of course, we were extremely hungry after walking all day. In any case, have a great time ... you won't regret your trip.
