Worth a stop between Bar Harbor and Brunswick?

We'll be traveling from Bar Harbor to Brunswick on a weekday in July. Is there something we should definitely stop and see or do on the way? We all like scenery and nature, but we'll also have teenagers with us who might like something we boring adults would never think of.
I'm sorry this is a re-post. I neglected to tag it the first time.

Teens would probably like a stop in Freeport for LL Beans and the other outlets.

There are other beaches etc. to stop at like Popham which has a sandy part where they could swim.

Are you taking the freeway or will you be meandering down route 1?

We'll be heading up the coast to Bar Harbor and returning south via the interstate.

The outlets and L.L. Bean are actually a few miles further than Brunswick. Also nearby the desert of Maine, a cool place to kill an hour.................

You can take a boat for. Boothbay to. Monnegan Island foe some hiking and incredible views. Yake a picnic lunch. Easier and .ess expensive would be wal,img the Giant Steps in Harpswell.
Owls Heas Transportation Museum near Rockland or the short hike tools Head Light
We have to be to the lighthouse museum but that's another thought.

Sorry, kids can shop at home ... Do something in Maine that's a more uniqueexperience

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, north of Wiscasset, is a beautiful spot, with great rocks and waves. The lighthouse is open for visiting.

Reid State Park just north of Bath, down the peninsula, is fun for a picnic, a scramble on the rocks, and some beach time.

Popham Beach is a wide, sandy, beach with a beautiful setting and an island you can walk to at low tide.

Skip the interstate in one direction. You might as well be in Alabama or Kentucky. Venture out to at least one or two of the villages like Port Clyde or Friendship. Stop in Camden and Rockland. In Rockland, a museum and a working industrial port are separated by only a few block.

If you are in Brunswick, venture out to Harpswell. The traffic in Wiscasset is awful because of people crossing the highway to go to Red's Eats, but there are wonderful sea captain's houses if you have any patience left.

Thanks, aprillilacs. Your suggestions sound like the kind of places our family will enjoy.
And thank you, Ackislander, for the caveat on Wiscasset traffic. We definitely plan to only take the interstate on our return direction, and then , only because of time constraints. We plan to spend a night in Rockland, so we'll check out your recommendations.
