Renting RV for touring SD,WY,UT,CO
Planning a trip through SD,WY,UT,CO next summer.
We (2 adults/2 teenagers from NH) are planning to fly in around SD to start a 3 week sightseeing tour around Mount Rushmore, Custer Nat.Park and make a loop through Yellowstone, South through the Canyonlands of Utah/Grand Canyon and fly out of Denver via Four Corners and Mesa Verde.
Trying to find a very dependable RV Rental to serve our purpose around those areas. Hopefully there are some suggesting out there>
Thanks in Advance,
CjD

I think that most of the folks here don't do the RV rental thing because it often comes out more expensive than renting a car and staying in motels and it limits where you can travel in the National Parks. Note you are talking about a trip that is going to cover 4 to 6 thousand miles in a vehicle that gets 5 to 10 miles per gallon and many companies charge extra per mile if you go more than 100 miles per day.
That said there are some folks who do have RVs and can tell you where you are likely to find places to stay and where you need to make reservations ahead. It seems that Las Vegas is often used as a place to rent RVs and you could do a loop from there to the places you are interested in visiting.
Have you considered renting a car and renting or buying tenting materials if you want the camping experience? This gives you the flexibility of that when you want it and a comfy bed in a motel when it's raining.
For the southern part of your trip this map with mileage and time chart that was posted here by another fodorite might help you with planning your trip.

That is a LOT of territory to try to cover in a motor home in a short time. To be honest -- w/ the cost of one-way rentals, roads in some of those areas, the inconvenience of having to pack up the 'home' to do any sightseeing, etc. This trip would be cheaper/easier by car.
Now -- IF it was your own motor home and you weren't renting one, that would make a big difference. Still trying to cover a lot of distance in a short time, but at least it would make more sense economically.

Also consider that you will be traveling several mountainous areas where the lack of power and maneuverability of an RV could be a real pain to deal with to say nothing of the fact that some who are not used to those driving conditions, find it a bit scary in a vehicle the size of an RV.

I think your loop needs to be in and out of Denver and maybe not the Badlands.
Our niece and family did it, but they had 4 kids so the hotel route would have been more difficult for them. They had a great time. Their route was further on west to California.
