Hiking and biking hotel options
We are looking into the possibility of planning a hiking and biking trip late this summer. We would like to stay near GNP to hike. We know that the park hotel options are already full. Hoping that someone can suggest a plan B lodging possibility to see the park. We would also like to bike some trails near the Idaho/Montana border ( close to Coeur d'Alene). We would probably fly in to Kalispell from Chicago. So, we have about a week and are looking for 2 or 3 hotel bases. Any advice would be appreciated.

Something near or in St. Mary on the east side of the park.

Something near Columbia Falls (Meadow Lake is nice).
Something near Coeur d' Alene on the lake.
Take your passports so you can go into the Canadian part of the park.

Kalispell is approx. 32 miles from the west entrance to the Park and has numerous motels/hotels and every type of food and shopping you can name. For day trips to GNP and Coeur d"Alene, it's an ideal place to stay.
Check out www.friendsofcdatrails.org for COMPLETE information on bike trails around the area of Coeur d"Alene . Route of Hiawatha is my favorite as it takes you through old railroad tunnels and over high trestles.

I found lodging for 3 days in East Glacier (1 day at Many Glacier and 2 at Rising Sun). Now I am looking for lodging near the Hiawatha Trail and the CdA trail. I see that there is a bike rental shop in Harrison. Would that be a good place to stay. For the last 3 days would Whitefish be an alternative? I would like to end the trip at a place with a few more creature comforts

I like Whitefish a lot and Bigfork, too. When we go to Whitefish, we stay at the Garden Wall Inn or the Whitefish Lake Lodge.
Bigfork: Flathead Lake Lodge is beautiful.
I think if I were looking at biking the Hiawatha Trail (trestles), I'd look to stay one night in a town closer to the trail. Quinn's Hot Springs in Plains, MT would be a good option. Staying in Wallace, Id is another option.
