Heres a good one-Abbeville,SC

Has anyone ever been to Abbeville, South Carolina. Am looking for a quite old southern town to spend a week of R&R. A Julia Roberts movie "Sleeping with the Enemy" was filmed there. They have a Spring Festival first of May - thought about going. Anyone know anything about it?

We lived in Greenwood (near there) for a while almost 40 years ago. My parents were great about taking us to places of interest in a new location. But I honestly don't remember anything about Abbeville. It would definitely be an old southern town. I remember a revolutionary era "Star Fort" somewhere in the area. Greenwood used to have the world's widest main street. If there's not enough to do, you could base out of Abbeville and check out other areas. Brattonsville is a historic area. The character played by Mel Gibson in "The Patriot" was based in part on the original owner at Brattonsville.

First, this info is second hand, sorry about that, but I'm afraid you may not get many responses.

I believe Abbeville is known for antique shopping and their local "Opera House" (community theater). South Carolina had beautiful scenery and climate, but unless you REALLY want to chill out for a week, I think you may be bored.

I don't know how "old Southern town" you want to get. Or what you intend to do. But one place I love to go is the Highlands/Cashiers area in the western North Carolina mountains. You can easily rent a condo there. Lots of waterfalls to hike to and lakes to walk around. And they do have festivals.

Bo...... Save your money and time. There is nothing going on in Abbeville, really. They got sunshine two weeks ago and running water is on the way.

Hi Donna,
I second T.M.'s advice, Cashiers and Highlands are beautiful areas in the North Carolina moutains. Many beautiful waterfalls in this area.
