Help with trip to Oregon in May

My husband and I will be traveling by car from SF to Oregon end of May or beg of June and wanted some help with places to stay. We will be stopping in Ashland for a few days, then to Coast and Portland. Would love suggestions of places in Portland and the Coast to stay. Would like to stay in downtown Portland, somewhere fun, easy to get around to sights and a quiet hotel or b&b. Also, wonder what might be some of the best towns to stay in along the Coast. Have about 9 days travel time. Thanks so much for your help.

We stayed at a house south of Newport and loved that area. It's less commercialized than the north coast, close to Cape Perpetua, Yaquina Head, etc. The house we stayed at is www.oregoncoastretreat.com

Florence and Newport are highly recommended (we liked Newport, haven't been as far S as Florence). Cannon Beach does get crowded. I'd hit Manzania for a beach and then Astoria is nice for a day/ night too!

We liked Arch Cape, which is north of Manzanita, 10 miles south of Cannon Beach.

They have fireplaces! Which will come in handy in June too ..

In Portland, downtown are many hotels, my favorite is the Monaco Portland (5th Ave Suites) but the Inn at Northrup Station is nice too..

Where are you staying in Ashland? We like the Ashland Plaza Inns & Suites. The Ashland Springs Hotel is also very nice. Let me know if you would like dining recs for Ashland, we have a couple of favorite places there.

In downtown Portland, we enjoyed a nice stay in a Symphony Suite at the Heathman Hotel. Very pretty lobby, friendly staff, great restaurant and nicely appointed rooms. The French Press coffee is the rooms was a nice touch.

Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Seaside and Newport are all very nice places to stay on the coast. Have fun! ***kim***

In the Interest of True Facts:
Yes, the Symphony Suite at the Heathman starts at $199- a night, unless you get the same special other posters have gotten for staying one night through an online bargain hotel site.
They offered these after some of the hotel was renovated..they are not offering them at this time.
