Help with these Sonoma Lodgings
Looking for very nice accomodations in Sonoma Valley for romantic weekend wine touring. Prefer room with balcony or garden, in the country or very quiet. Spa is not a requirement. Hate big chains. Any comments on the following: MacArthurs Place, Sonoma Mission Inn, Madrona Manor, Vintners Inn, and other suggestions? Thanks!

Here's a vote for Vintner's Inn! It is in a perfect location for touring...right off the 101, but still seems like a million miles away.
We've been there several times and have loved it. Request a room that overlooks the vineyards (many of them do). We preferred first floor, but not everyone does. No spa, but they do have a hot tub area that is simple/nice.
Also, John Ash is a fabulous restaurant.
Have a great time.

Loved Madrona Manor (have not stayed there for a while). It is a wonderful house that belonged to a wealthy businessman from San Francisco. Has been beautifully converted. Family owned (or was at the time we stayed)and the food was marvelous. Small dining room, at that time, and guests were considered for reservations first. Would highly recommend it, if it has not changed.

We stayed at Sonoma Mission Inn and would not recommend it - pricey, unaccommodating staff, too many people (which made it hard to relax). I agree with the other poster though, the grounds are beautiful. The rooms are fair for their price and the spa is OK; I've seen better. I would recommend staying elsewhere. Have a great time.
