I would do a search on this board to bring up lots of SF info. By the way, as an FYI parking at the St Francis is about 42 dollars a day.

you don't want a car in the city, rent it specifically for your trips elsewhere.

For nightlife, walk up to North Beach. They have numerous sports bars, pubs, etc. You can also go south of Market (namely 11th St) and find a bunch of clubs and bars. If you have never been to San Francisco before, go to Alcatraz--this is one tourist destination that lives up to the hype (be sure to buy tickets early--it often sells out in the summer).

I agree with lizzard. We rented a car for just the day (cost $32.00) to go to Sonoma, and that cost was less than just the parking let alone the parking & rental car. Renting one each day, for just the day, would be cheaper. There are numerous places downtown to rent from, including Hertz, Budget, and Dollar.

It's baseball season and there is nothing better than a day game at Pac Bell Park. You can buy tickets on the Giant's website. One of the best clubs for rock is Slim's, south of Market St. Don't know who is playing while you will be here but I'm sure you can find out by checking the web as well. Don't know where you are from but I've lived here a long time and SF is an "early to bed" town, believe it or not.

Oh, you should go see Beach Blanket Babylon in North Beach -- even the locals love it.
