Hello I'm moving from Manchester NH to Burlington NC next week and I'm driving a uhaul and towing my truck. Can anyone help me with the best route for a 26' uhaul and towing an SUV? I can't go my normal route which is through the moutains so I'm clueless on the route to go.

From Manchester I 93 South to Rte 495 S in Massachusetts

Rte 495 South to MassPike

MassPike to Rte 84 through CT.

Tappen Zee Bridge to Garden State Parkway South

Garden State Parkway to NJ Turnpike in Woodbridge

Navigating through Baltimore/DC. If you can, I would just stay on I 95 South towards Richmond.

You have a couple of options from Richmond to Burlington - but none are really through the mountains and you should be fine.

We have driven almost identical trip - in a normal car - many times. In a car it is a brutal 1-day trip with 2 drivers, mostly because something always happens in NJ or around DC area. I would suggest breaking it up. While it is nice to make it through DC on Day 1, you may find with the truck and towing that is too much. Aberdeen, MD is a nice half way point.

Ignore times on Mapquest. Only happens in that short a time if you are very lucky. Key is timing. Try to leave NH at a horribly early hour - 5 AM. Gets you through Boston pre-rush hour, at the late end of NYC rush hour, and in a perfect world at the early part of DC rush hour.

Check mileage/time to go Rt 101 to Keene then Brattleboro VT and I91 south to Hartford and then Gail's directions. It adds almost an hour but you don't have to deal with I495 commuting traffic. I91 doesn't usually have a lot of traffic. You also want to get past Hartford when there's not a lot of traffic. There's a rotary/roundabout before you get on I91.

Try not to go on a Friday in the summer or early fall.

Looking at a google mapping of it I would wonder about doing the I81 route and missing ALL the major metropolitan areas on the east coast, including NYC and bridges. It is 25 miles further and negligibly longer in time.

But consumer wanted to avoid the hills along that route. We have taken that route as well - lots of big scary trucks going 85+ mph. Balance between that and poking-along cars the other route. Pick your poison.
