My husband and I will be ending our GCNP, Zion, and Bryce trip with a night in LV before an 11a.m. flight back to East Coast.

We will be coming from Zion on a Friday and will drive thru Valley of Fire on the way to LV. Which route is best to get to LV from there.

We would like to get lodging near airport, but would also like to see LV strip and maybe get something good to eat there. We are not interested in gambling or shows.

Any suggestions about where to stay for under $200? Do we need to turn in rental that day and just go by taxi or shuttle to hotel, or return car the next morning before flight? Not sure about driving and parking in LV strip area.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The airport in LV is just a very short ride from the Strip.

When is this for - summer prices are pretty low for rooms.

Do you want a hotel with a casino? IF not, I recommend The Signature at MGM. We stayed there in January and really liked it.

The car rental center is now located quite a distance from the airport and turning in a car can take about an hour from leaving your hotel to finally shuttling back to the airport. Your best bet might be a hotel close to the car rental return center so that you can avoid morning traffic and also save $30 on cab fare by taking the car-rental shuttle bus back to the airport. You can easily access the hotels on the south end of the strip from this airport area, park at Mandalay Bay, take the tram to Excalibur, and then walk across the street to see NYNY, Bellagio, Paris, and MGM, then tram back to Mandalay Bay and drive a mile to your hotel.
The closest hotels to the car rental return are the Hilton Garden Inn at 7800 LV Blvd South, and the Baymont Inn on Robindale.
To get here from Valley of Fire go back onto I-15 South
Merge onto I-15 S ,drive 40 miles, take Exit 34 towards airport/Henderson...keep right at the fork and follow signs for Las Vegas Blvd,turning right onto LV Blvd. Ask the hotel clerk for the easy directions to Car Rental Center.

Valley of Fire to the Strip takes a little over an hour, but on a Friday afternoon you wouldn't want to be leaving Valley of Fire between 3:45pm and 5:45pm because you'll hit very heavy traffic around Las Vegas.

P.S. Seeing the strip on Friday night will be loaded with traffic and take hours. If you want to "cruise" the strip from one end to the other, get up early on Saturday morning before your flight and drive down Las Vegas Blvd a few miles, turn around when you pass the Wynn Hotel and then drive down the other side of the strip, traffic will be very light early morning. After you get back past Mandalay Bay turn left on Sunset Road, go 1/2 mile, turn right on Gillespie and go 1/2 mile to car rental return center on your right.

You can park free at the Luxor. One option for seeing the Strip is to ride "The Deuce" which is a double decker bus. Keep the car until you are ready to leave for the airport and ride the shuttle from the car rental center back to departures.
Try to get up to the Fremont Street Experience in time for the light show. Stop into the Golden Nugget to see the largest gold nugget on display (62 lb.).

All the strip hotels have huge, free self-parking lots, valet parking is also free(they expect a couple of bucks tip). The tram is free, there is also "Las Vegas Monorail" that goes way down the strip but is in the $9 to $12 range.

If you wish to stay on the strip, RivieraHotel.com has rooms for $100 (taxes included). This hotel is at the opposite end of the strip however, get good directions back to Car Rental Center and allow proper time, the center is not right at the airport.

Luxor, Monte Carlo, MGM and Tropicana will all come in under $200 on that Friday night and are on the airport end of the strip so will save you 10 or 12 minutes in the morning.

Sounds like a wonderful trip! If you aren't too picky on location, I would probably book a 4-star hotel on Hotwire or Priceline. Use www.hoteldealsrevealed.com to see what hotels are available. You shouldn't have a problem getting something for $100. Luxor, Monte Carlo, Flamingo and Treasure Island are all regular hotels on Hotwire and priceline, and even weekend rates are almost always below $100.

From Valley of Fire I would take the Northshore Road (hwy169)
through Lake Mead Rec Area ($10.00 fee) into Henderson where I would stay the night. Marriott id showing a price of $87 for the night. The Strip is an easy drive from Henderson via Sunset and Tropicana.

Tropicana brings you to the MGM Grand where you can park for free, as you can at all Strip hotels.

I would take the monorail as far north as you wish and walk the Strip back to the car.

It is just as quick and easy to return car the from Henderson as it is from the Strip.

I have never had a good meal in Vegas.
We have eaten there about three years ago and enjoyed it.

PS. After sunset the Hoover Dam, especially the intake towers, is a beautiful sight.
