Help! Which cabin in Estes Park? RMNP with kids?
My family is looking to stay in the estes park area for a week in late August. We've looked at lots of cabins along the fall river, but it's hard to tell what is secluded and pretty from an online photo. Any suggestions for a private family cabin on the river? Also, we love hiking and want to see much of RMNP, but we're traveling with our two children (3 and under.) Any ideas on what to do and see and where to hike and picnic in the park with little ones? Any places to see, dine, etc. in Estes Park with young children?

There really isn't anything that secluded along Fall River Road. It's not NYC, mind you, but the properties abut one another and in August, Fall River Road will be a busy place. That shouldn't deter you from going, though, because the park is magnificent and it's a great family destination. I've stayed at Woodlands and Boulder Brook, which probably aren't the best places for a family, so I can't recommend any other specific cabin property. If you don't have to be on Fall River, you might look into the cabins at Glacier Lodge or Valhalla where they have playgrounds and activities.
There's plenty to do in Estes with the wee ones. There is a go-kart amusement park, a cable-car ride up to a mountain peak, a community rec center with a pool and of course, hiking in the park. A great trail that's flat and easy, but very scenic, is at Sprague Lake off Bear Lake Road. There's a shallow creek where you can watch the trout swim, lots of ducks and birds and a beautiful peak reflected in the lake. Take lots of photos! The Park's Visitor Center at Beaver Meadows has some exhibits geared to children, with a great souvenir shop! Most restaurants in town are family-friendly - you'll know them when you see them! Try the Big Horn on Elkhorn for breakfast or lunch - popular place and great food!

We went to RMNP when our kids were 1 and 3. We had a great time. Get a park trail map. There are several short loops trails that are easily doable even for a toddler (although ours couldn't decide if he wanted to be in the backpack carrier or on his own two feet. Drive the road that crosses over the park. We saw plenty of wildlife, a moose, deer, elk, etc.

Thanks for the helpful recommendations. Glacier Lodge looks great for our family. Any suggestions on which units/cabins are best? These two bedroom units are available for our time frame: Aspenglen, Ponderosa, Flat Top, and Hallet Peak.
