HELP w/Haleakala bike ride
I think I'm on information overload. Trying to decide if my husband and I should go on a guided ride or self-paced. I've seen in many posts that the guides rush you down sometimes making you ride as much as 30 miles/hr. I am a competent bike rider but I.m certainly not used to riding downhill fast with a ton of curves! On the other hand, there wouldn't be a guide to run interference for us. Any suggestions? And what company would you recommend?

My husband and I did this with a guide. I think it was Maui Downhill. They only go as fast as their slowest rider (they basically put all the women in front). There were about 10 people in our group. I would not do this ride without a guide/group. I felt very safe and we actually rode a little too slow I thought. The guide in front was in constant contact with the van in back who told us when to pull over to let cars go by or whatever. We did not feel rushed at all.
Any time anyone felt like they did not want to ride anymore just pulled over and hopped in the van.
