HELP still undecided where to stay on first trip to San Diego

I've posted several other times and I thought I had made my mind up on Hotel del Coronado Coming in on Nov 3- 10 (husbands 5oth birthday gift) for our first visit to San Diego. As I've said before we both love the beach alot. I was debating between Lajolla or Coronado. I really liked La Valencia but I thought I got a better deal at Hotel del Coronado (195 a nite), There are such mixed reviews of that hotel. Other options I looked at were Coranado Beach Resort, Leows, Catamaran, . Any other ideas. We plan to explore as much as we can but we love to be near the ocean.

Is this like my 5th time telling you that the Grande Colonial is lovely in LJ..
Grand Del Mar Resort..L'Auberge resort and spa..Estancia hotel..all great hotels.
November should be wide open and pretty cheap for 4-5* resorts.
Hotel Del is great to visit but not to stay..unless you are in the newer tower or in the bungalows.
No on Catamaran hotel..Loew's is nice.

The beaches in Coronado are superb! I would stay with the Del for the sand - but be sure to specify new tower, CORNER view room. Loew's has a different location orientation, as does the Marriott on Coronado. L'Auberge in Del Mar is lovely, a few steps more to the beach. Both the Del and L'Auberge are in wonderful villages, great for walking and exploring. Estancia is much further from the beach - very different - romantic low key elegance, but not ocean.

Good luck!
