Help please SusanCS
Susan I saw on other posts that you recently returned from Key West. Also on yet another you mentioned Truman Annex as a vacation rental. I couldn't tell if you meant that Truman was not the best place to stay or that it had both good and bad parts. We are 5 adults-1 family- and will be travelling in Aug. Are you familiar with the Foundry section of the annex? I realize Aug. will be hot! Thanks

Just please keep in mind that the location of Truman Annex is not in the best location to access the remainder of Key West. It is better to stay (in my opinion nearer Duval. Simonton (which runs parallel) has some great B & B's & other rentals on it. I prefer to stay near the Marina myself.

Thanks all--- Go Travel I do have a weekly rental on hold. I am now wondering if this is better for our family(adult children)than say rooms at a b&b more centrally located. The unit is on Front st. -I think the wwestern end of truman. It has a small common pool. Will this be good in your opinion. I know it will be really hot walking around!

Truman Annex is fine. As has been said, there was an ordinance requiring rentals of at least 30 days for owners who don't have transient licenses. That ordinance is currently not being enforced.
Although all of Truman Annex looks very nice from the exterior, all units are apparently not created equally. My understanding is that many of the newer condos (Shipyard comes to mind) were built on fairly strict budgets and don't have the same amenities as others. (Aslo heard the walls were very thin!). For the life of me, I can't think of which area the Foundry is, so I'm afraid I can't help you there. I'm sure it's lovely.
My personal opinion is that although Truman Annex is very nice - and we've considered renting there several times -it's just a little too "Stepford Wives" looking for me! Perfect houses, perfect lawns, no cars, very quiet, very few people walking around. I just prefer a more active neighborhood.
And oh, my, please be prepared for the heat and humidity! The only other place I've been with that kind of climate is New Orleans - and I've had trouble catching my breath there in August!
