Help! Need two rooms but for different days.

I need to get two hotel rooms for our daughter's NYU graduation in May. The problem is that we always go through Priceline to save mega-bucks, but my sister in law wants us to get them a room in the same hotel. BUT we cannot bid on Pricline for this because they are staying less days than we are. I would place this question on biddingfortravel but don't want to get verbally b**ch-slapped by the cranky moderator. Anyone have any ideas?

Try quikbook.com, where you can choose your hotel.

Priceline won't have much to offer (at a bargain) during a graduation weekend.

How much shorter IS their stay? If you can get a good enough rate on Priceline, it might be worth booking the extra days for them, even if they won't use them.

You could bid for two rooms for the dates you have in common. Then, once you are successful, use the "add nights" feature for your additional dates. Though, in my experience, this is always rejected with a counter-offer of $20-30/night higher. Still a really good deal, though. I did this when I was so pleased with the outcome, I decide to stay some extra days. And, another time when the flight times/prices were better, but on different days. And, then there was the time I really wanted a specific area, so dropped off one day. Bid was accepted finally, so then I added back the day before with the "add nights" feature. Rate was $20/night higher than the other nights, but this worked out better than upping my bid another $10 (or more) for a four night stay.

Or, once you've secured your room, have your sister-in-law bid right away in hopes of getting the same hotel.

Note that rates vary substantially on days of the week (weekdays, versus weekends, versus Sunday, and combinations thereof). And, for dates with historically high fill rates, all bets are off.

"... but don't want to get verbally b**ch-slapped by the cranky moderator"

If you're tired of it, please start to post your "wins" (and any prior "wins" you still have info about) at a new database for BOTH Hotwire AND Priceline, where ALL questions are welcomed:

www.thenassaus.com/forums
(NO spam and NO pop-up ads)

As for your dilemma, the other posters here have given you some good ideas already, but i think a lot has to do with just how much shorter her trip will be than yours.

It's NOT too early to start bidding this due to it being a graduation weekend. I would also recommend you book a cancellable back up... the sooner the better.

If you care to post more specifics (here or at the above board) regarding the dates you will be needing and the dates your sister-in-law will be needing, i'll try to give you some specific options.
