Help - Need Info on Detroit

Every year since we were married, I have taken my husband to an "original six" town for a hockey game and a birthday dinner. Since it is usually only 2 or 3 nights, we try to stay in a nice hotel even though price is somewhat of a factor (would like to stay under $140 per night, but the lower the better). Considering the Omni but would appreciate suggestions on accomodations as well as what to do other than the hockey game. Also complicating the matter, we would like to stay as close as possible to Joe Louis Arena (unless the area is really bad).
Would really appreciate opinions and comments. THANKS!

I live in Detroit, I can't think of the name of the hotel, but there is a really nice hotel in Downtown Detroit. I have to think about it and I'll get back with you. You can also go to a Tigers Baseball game at the new Comerica Park stadium I hear it's really nice. You can also go to the Summit atop the Renaissance Center. Really fancy restaurant. (expensive) Also, if your into gambling you could go to the new casinos downtown. I hear MGM Grand is really nice. I've never been to either casinos. Or you could go across the border to Canada and stay there. I heard Casino Windsor is a nice hotel. They have restaurants/lounges with live entertainment etc... Request a room overlooking the water. (Romantic)
Good luck!!

Sandi,
We used to live in Detroit and always liked Greektown. It is not too far from the "Joe". Also good Mexican restaurants near the Ambassador Bridge to Windsor but you would need to use a car to get there. There is also a tunnel to downtown Windsor from downtown Detroit. We are hoping to go back and see the new Comerica Park and perhaps a show at the Fox Theatre or at the Gem Theatre. Detroit has lots of nice spots but there are unpleasant areas in between so stay with the crowds.

Greektown is a great area. We stayed at The Athenium (SP?) and had a great time. There's a variety of restaurants in the area, and we felt safe walking to them.

Thats it... Thanks Pat. The hotel is the Anthenium.. Very nice hotel in Downtown Detroit.
If you have any questions, just let me know. Downtown also has several theatres with different show. Fox Theatre, Music Hall, Masonic Temple, Ochestra Hall and State Theatre if your interested in catching a show. Let me know what dates your going to be down here and I can find out what shows will be going on.

I would be very careful staying in
Detroit downtown. I suggest staying
in Windsor - at least everyone is
not carrying a loaded weapon! Cdn
prices are 50% off! Good restaurants
are abundant in Greektown - people
mover ride from the Joe.
