If you haven't bought your flights, Southwest flies into both Providence( nice airport) and Boston Logan so you can do an open jaw. I have done this several times and your flights have no change fees.

Booked on American for 267. Flying Southwest is a pain out of Dallas because requires a stop.

Good job on the hotels. Boston should be OK since there are so many choices for neighborhoods that will work. Travelzoo usually had some good deals for Boston, but it may be too early for August.

I will keep looking there, thanks. There's an interesting Jetsetter offer for my dates, but it's still more than I want to pay at this point.

So it turns out I could get a couple of free nights at either Courtyard Brookline, South Boston, or Cambridge. Any thoughts on these areas? Brookline is close to Coolidge Corner T stop ...

The Brookline location will be more convenient for easy transportation into Boston, and you are near shops and good restaurants as well. You're on the Green Line C line which is above ground in Brookline on Beacon Street and goes underground just before the Kenmore Square stop.

The other two locations are further from transportation and restaurants.

That's great to have free nights!

Newport has a TON of B&Bs, which can be more reasonable during the week, fyi. In Providence, there is a WaterFire scheduled for Aug. 10, where fires are lit on the rivers through the downtown, and it seems like half the state comes out to stroll, listen to music, watch the street performers. One of the greatest romantic free events ever.
