What about an all-inclusive family-oriented resort in the Caribbean? Beaches has several resorts with kids and teens activites. Last year my daughter, who was 15 at the time, and I stayed at the Franklyn D Resort in Runaway Bay. They have a teen program, although unfortunately there were no other teens there until the last couple of days. However, the teen coordinator did his best to make sure my daughter was occupied. A program like that would suit the ages of both your kids. Some of them, like the Franklyn D, also have vacation nannies, so you also get time to yourself.

If you liked Daytona, consider Myrtle Beach. There are literally hundreds of oceanfront hotel options - from small family-owned motels to huge highrise resorts. And the beaches are beautiful. Many find the area overly commercial and sometimes tacky, but certainly no more so than Daytona Beach.

And October is the perfect time to go - chances are it will still be warm enough for some beach time (esp for Canadians) but the crowds will be greatly diminished and hotel rates greatly reduced. And lots of Canadian flock to Myrtle Beach - most hotels fly the Canadian flag in the off-season.

If you're a member of CAA, get a AAA South Carolina guidebook to see the huge number of hotel options.

Oops, forgot the possible downside. That area of the country gets its fair share of hurricanes that time of year. It's a gamble.
