Help from Manhattan wine afficianados please!

My husband just told me last night how he would love to take one of those wine appreciation classes in the city as a Christmas gift. I know there was an article a while back in both the NY Times and Wine Spectator but I didn't save them and don't know where to start. I already did searches on the internet but no luck. I think Lisa said she had an interest in wines so Lisa, if you're out there can you help? Thanks, I'm kind of in a hurry!

The best one is offered by Windows on the World -- I think they're even still having it -- but it's pretty expensive.

I think Morrell & Co (one of the city's best wine shops) also offers classes. Call them for a catalog.

Just type "wine classes new york" into Google and a bunch will come up, I noticed Vintage New York and the Wine Institute.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Lisa, windows on the world? Wasn't that in the WTC? My husband loves Morrell & co. too. I'll check out your suggestions too, Frank. Funny I typed in "wine classes NY" on yahoo and came up empty. I'll try google.

Windows on the World most definitely was in the WTC. However, I read recently that they have gone ahead with their wine course. It is really for serious wine buffs.

I'm sure he likes to think he's serious! I'll try typing in "Windows on the World" and see what I come up with. Thanks for your help.

Well, that was fast. Couldn't get any info on WOW but just got off the phone with Vintage NY. They have a series of 4 classes for just $ 99 a person. I'll probably go with him. The classes are from 6:30 - 8:00 so where could we go to dinner afterwards? It is on Broome Street in SOHO so I need some suggestions. Thanks again.

Vintage is such a nice store-my husband is definitely a wine affiancado, he likes browsing at Vintage every weekend..While he is appreciating the wine, there are some good boutiques nearby for you

Looks as though you've made your decision, but I wanted to add recently that the Windows on the World wine classes are now being held at the Marriott Marquis.

Curious~~Sorry-I forgot while focusing on shopping rather than eating for a minute there! On Broadway is a place called Novocento, it is Brazilian, very good food, good atmosphere, great waiters, the music is good and the waiters usually hum along and dance when not serving..charming.Then there is a nice French bistro, and a place called Diva.I have not eaten at Diva yet, they always have a crowd and it seems to be popular..then there is the Cupping Room, Barolla, then on Prince there is Quilty's,Il Corallo, The Cub Room, and a wonderful French place that is romantic and so French! called Provence...which is off Prince on McDougal -that is all that I can think of now, time for bed~Enjoy Candice

Thanks for the tips Candice! I'm serious, if you decide to go, give me a holler here and we'll meet. I do love to shop, it's my second worse addiction! I was also thinking of doing the Monday night wine dinner at Morrell. It sounds fun. Let me know if you decide to go. - Cheri
