Help finding dog-friendly hotel in Chicago
My family is meeting up in Chicago for Christmas, and my parents are trying to find a hotel. They have an old, small, quiet dog, so that complicates things, as many places don't accept pets. Since my sister's one-room apartment is small, we would love to find a suite hotel room that takes pets, hopefully under $100 a night. Is this doable or are we dreaming in colour? If there are no suite hotels, a regular hotel room would have to do. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

My very favorite suite hotel that allows pets is Residence Inn by Marriott, and there are several around the Chicago area. You will pay more like $150 or so, not any less, for a studio or 1-BR, depending what discounts your parents are eligible for. Breakfast is included in that, and they are really nice, spacious and clean. Paying a hundred or less will get you a Days Inn-type place, which is not for me because they have lousy reputations nationwide, as a rule. If you're interested in Residence Inn, I would book early because traveling pet-lovers are on to them now!
Good luck!

The Red Roof on E. Ontario accepts pets. It's not a glamourous hotel, but clean and comfortable and rooms should definitely be under $100 per night. It is part of the Accor hotel group, which is generally quite pet friendly. If you wanted to splash out for your parents and their pet, then the Sofitel Water Tower (also part of the hotel group) is much more luxurious and also pet friendly. Check www.sofitel.com to see if there are any specials for your travel dates.

(a long cut and paste, hope it works).

Tell me about it. They're pretty stingy. The Red Roof Inn wouldn't be so bad (I've stayed there myself) but my parents are driving their huge kick-ass pickup truck, and parking at the Red Roof Inn would be $35 or so per day. They've ended up reserving at the Motel 6 near O'Hare (you can't beat $55 a night). It's the best alternative given the dog and the fact that all of us crashing on the floor of my sister's one-room apartment would make this Christmas the most hellish in recent memory!
