Try Just Passing Through in Chicago. They offer awesome fully furnished studio and 1 bedroom units for travelers and visitors to Chicago. The apts also have kitchens with all appliances, dishes, cookware, silverware etc. Their site is at justpassingthrough.com Their prices are fantastic too.

The world's first underwater hotel is in the upper keys in Florida. If you're not claustrophobic, you might try it out. It's Jules' Undersea Lodge. Another thought is in California not to far inland from San Diego. Sorry to say I can't remember the name, but the "rooms" are high atop trees. It looked real interesting!!

The Mandarin-Oriental Hotel in San Francisco. Many hotels have views, but most don't have views such as this hotel has . . . even from the bathroom. Rooms equipped with binoculars.

Ice Hotel, somewhere in Scandinavia as I recall, is rebuilt every year (as it tends to melt). It's literally an all ice hotel, and it's not cheap. I've seen it on TV and in one of the travel magazines. Do a search and you'll find it easily, I'm sure.

Anderson House (?) in Winona, MN has cats at the front desk for check-out. They'll spend the night in your room if you like.

The Ice Hotel is in Jukkasjarvi Sweden just north of the Arctic Circle. Rebuilt each year from 10,000 tons of ice. Rooms are $90 a night. Temperature is -5 Celsius in the hotel. Has a sauna, bar, etc. Hosts 40 weddings a year.
Pretty unique.

I'll give a strong third to the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. Truly funky offbeat hotel!

Little Palm Island Reort in Little Torch Key Florida is lovley and quite unique. One must sail on a noat from the mainland to get there and the resort is on its own islan in the water. The accomodations are in thatched roof bungalows(but no slumming it here)----Bungalows come equipped with a/c, netting over beds, jacuzzis and your very own hammock to sway to while listening to the waves lap at the shore! Ahhhh! Wish I was there right now!
