You have always been a great help before so I'm asking again......where can I take my eleven old granddaughter this summer for a week? We've been to Boston, Michigan, The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and the Atlantis on Paradise Island (which she loved) Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thankyou!

A subject line of nothing but a very vague entreaty for 'HELP' isn't likely to gain you many responses. You should have been more specific, and I'll bet a great many more people would open your thread.

Also, it would help anyone who DOES happen to open your thread, if you would be MUCH MUCH more specific about what you're looking for. For starters, letting us know what activities your granddaughter enjoys......your budget......etc......

In other words, provide more info, and you'll probably get some good suggestions.

Have you thought about a cruise? We took our 9 and 12 year olds on a cruise last year and they cannot stop talking about it. They had a blast. Go to the cruise board or to www.cruisecritic.com

Washington DC for 3-4 days. Then either the Delaware beaches, the Shenandoah Valley area in Virginia, or Williamsburg/Mt Vernon for the remaining time. Time permiting, you might also include a vist to one of the amusment parks like King's Dominion (near Richmond) or Busch Gardens (near Williamsburg).

Depends on how adventurous you and your granddaughter are. I would say a cruise or even go to an island like Costa Rica where there are tons of things to do. If you want to stay in the US, how about Seattle?

Stratford, Ontario is a neat town with fantastic summer theatre, and the added interest of bneing a different country.

It's gonna be boring, not much to do, but it will be cheap. You've not given us a clue to where you're coming from, what kind of things either of you like, nor how much you'd prefer to spend. Yup, my post seems a bit harsh, but you deserve some "tough love".

First of all there is no need to be nasty. I am planning an island trip for our company so I have islands on the brain whenever I think of water - sue me! We actually found alot to do such as tree top canopy tours, mud baths etc and my 11 year old niece was not bored at all and wants to go back.

Gosh earl and rb, coffebeana only has made 3 prior posts to this forum. Maybe she/he needs helpful advice on how to title messages to get responses (as BrimhamRocks gave), instead of a thrashing. Beachdreams is right, no need to be nasty. No one is perfect, even on this board.

I think a cruise might be a great idea as well.

OK -- I'll offer a partial apology - late night working and no coffee yet when I posted = Grumpy rb. But even as I return & re-read .... coffebeana, new or not -- even if s/he had done some searches & thought (as many of us have) that this posts to those areas, instead of the big "US" forum ... was still awfully darn vague.

So Coffebean, visit Utica & check out the Munson Williams Proctor
Arts Institute ( www.mwpi.edu ), go to nearby Rome to visit Erie Canal Village & learn about this waterway that was an engineering marvel in it's day. Take a ride on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, try dinner & theater at Beck's Grove & Dinner Theater, do some shopping at Syracuse's Carousel Mall, visit the Barnett Zoo & learn more Erie Canal history in Syracuse. Visit Oriskany Battlefield Historical Site for some Revolutionary War history, and go to Herkimer to mine some "Herkimer Diamonds" (actually quartzite) and make a trip south to Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall of Fame, the 19th Century Farmers' Museum (where you can see the "Cardiff Giant" -- a hoax that the number of people who came to see it was surpassed when Barnum made his own copy of it. Visit the hometown of James Fenimore Cooper, author of "Last of the Mohigans", and maybe even find some time to gamble (kids' LOVE to gamble!) at the nearby Turning Stone Casino.

Sounds to me that no matter where you go, your grandchild will remember the great quality time she spent with her grandparent......such a sweet and loving age 11 is [at least my daughter is]. Anyhow, based on her likes go to a city that offers more of that. If it were my daughter it would be animals and swimming... thus I'd be heading to a lake where we could hike to view wildlife or visit a zoo [although i hate most zoos.] you'll have a great trip where ever you go....you're a great grandparent!!!

Amen to that. There are too many nasty posts on this board. remember the old saying your Mom told you- if you don't have somethign nice to say, don't say it? On here it should be if you don't have something helpful and constructive to say, just don't write it. No one needs the negativity when they are asking for help to begin with.
