Heading to Dallas for a Wedding
My husband and I are heading to Dallas for a wedding next week (we live in DC) and are looking for some hip restaurants/night life spots to go to. We're staying North of the city on the North Central Expressway and will have a car.
Thanks!

Metro Dallas has enough nightlife for 6 million people. The major restaurant/nightlife zones are...
Mockingbird Station
This is an "urban village" built around an LRT rail station. Not so much for night clubs, but the Irish bar called Trinity (named after the college in Dublin) has some entertainment, and there are some restaurants, and also the Angelika art film theatre.
Lower Greenville
This is a 2 mile stretch of clubs just south of Mockingbird station. Dozens of clubs, restaurants, a couple of theatres showcasing bands, virtually everything. The nightlife is divided into several clusters, from Mockingbird Avenue, all the way to Ross Avenue to the south. I'd suggest the Granada Theatre for music, Terrilli's for jazz, Gloria's for Salvadoran food.
Knox-Henderson
A few miles north of downtown. The area has many good restaurants, some shopping on Knox street, and a lot of home accessory stores.
West Village
This is an urban district south of Knox-Henderson, located at the intersection of North Central and Blackburn. For restaurants, try Taco Diner, for clubs, try the Club Nikita.
McKinney Avenue
This street goes from West Village to downtown Dallas, and has many restaurants, places with live music, and some galleries and antique shops, especially on Fairmount and McKInney. On the lower end of McKinney and near downtown, try the Sambuca night club/restaurant, for showroom style jazz in an elegant room.
Downtown Main Street
This is a four block stretch of restaurants and clubs in a part of downtown that is redeveloping old office buildings into condos and lofts. For rtestaurants, try the multistory Iron Cactus, with upper floor terraces overlooking the Pegausu Plaza... the margaritas are exceptional even ifd the food isn't. For clubs, check out the new Purgatory nightclub, with a floor for Hell, another for Purgatory, and one for Heaven. Club Blue a block over on Elm-Pacific is a happening place
Deep Ellum
This was one of the homes of the blues... Blind Lemon Jefferson, T-Bone Walker and Leadbelly used to play on the sidewalk for spare change. Today, it has dozens of clubs and restaurants in a small area. Try the Gypsy Tea Room for showroom acts.
West End
Not as hip as trendy Deep Ellum or Greenville Avenue, more like a haven for conventioners, but the district still has many restaurants in a small area, lots of activity and street life, some shopping in the West End Marketplace, and a neighborhood without the grunge and edge of Deep Ellum
Southside
South of the Convention Center, the area has picked up a couple of good clubs. Gilley's is a huge place with country-western acts mostly, and Poor David's Pub books many eclectic acts.
Hope this helps...

Thanks Christie P and xbt2316 for all of the suggestions! As first time Dallas visitors, this will be great! I had read about the Lower Greenville area - the jazz sounds great! Thanks again!
