Hayward,Wisconsin?

Hi!
My girlfriend will be taking me to her family cabin in Hayward Wisconsin in the late Summer. Anybody out there familiar with the area? She says the cabin in on a lake...there's excellent fishing, canoeing, etc.
I'm a California native who's never been to that part of the country, so I'm pretty excited.
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm from WI, but haven't been to that particular area. I've also visited CA and know that you will find the trip very relaxing. If you plan on doing to outdoorsy things you've mentioned you should enjoy it. Warning: bring bug spray as the mosquitos are Horrible!

Mosquitoes.....you should know: it's the Wisconsin state bird. Bug spray is definitely in order. As is: a relaxed state of mind. If you don't arrive with one, you'll have it within a few hours, guaranteed! Loved the enthusiasm of your query...would be anxious to know what you think after you've made the visit..

I have lived in Southern Ca. for over 27 years but am from Northern Mn. and am very familiar with the Hayward Area. Wisc. and Mn. are both beautiful states with very nice people. Hayward has become the 2nd home of many people from the city (Mpls., Chicago, Madison and Milwaukee). I am sure you will enjoy it and your enthusiasm will help lots. Go with a good attitude and you will have a good time. WE go back every year and we still love it. Have a great trip!

Hayward is a GREAT area! Yes - I agree with the previous posts about the mosquitoes - they are bad! But they mainly come out in the evenings, so don't worry too much!

If you like barbecue, there's a great barbecue place on the south end of Big Round Lake - I think it's called Famous Dave's, but they might have changed the name - it's still "something" Dave's. It's outstanding!

If you're up by the Cable area, a couple of great restaurants are Garmisch and Echo Point - both are on Lake Namekagon. Garmisch is a really neat place to see - built to resemble an old German castle.

Don't miss the Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward if you're into fishing, especially musky fishing.
