It gets good reports, especially if you're traveling with children. The least attractive thing about it in my opinion is that it's pretty isolated. I personally prefer Key West because it's got lots of great restaurants and diverse activities.

Hi Ron! Have you stayed in any of these places? I am looking for a nice, quiet, clean, moderate priced property in Islamaroda and Key West that allows children. Thanks

MariBeth,

I have stayed at the Cheeca Lodge, Casa Morada & The Moorings, all great & children no problem. The Green Turtle Inn is a great place to dine, lunch or dinner. Also, their is a great place to dine accross the street from the Morado Cafe, I think. The other places I have not stayed, but they get great reviews from the Frommer's Florida Key West message board! Now, Key West is different, there are a lot of places to stay. Here are some of my recommendations & you can do some websuring to find the right place for you to stay at in Key West!

Hotels:

Hyatt Resort - Very expensive, but worth every dollar - Highly recommended - our favorite - http://www.hyatt.com/

Ocean Key House - Very expensive - http://www.oceankeyhouse.com/

The Galleon - Timeshare - very expensive - http://www.thegalleon.com/

Hyatt Vacation Club Sunset Harbor Resort - Timeshare - very expensive - superb - Condo accommodations - our favorite - http://keys3web.expr.net/spottswood/hyatt.htm

Truman Annex - Choice places - very expensive - you can find some nice places to stay if you contact the owners, in other words, do some searching - http://www.trumanannex.com/ - http://www.vrbo.com/

Hyatt Vacation Club Beach House Resort - Timeshare - located by the golf course - not close to Old Town - http://keys3web.expr.net/spottswood/hyattbeach.htm

Pineapple Cottage - Very romantic & expensive - our pick - http://www.floridakeys.net/pineapple/

Victoria's Compound - A little walk to Duval St. - http://victorialesser.com/keywest.htm

We found Hawk's Cay to be a delight. The Villa was new and clean and the activities for children were wonderful. Highly recommend Sunset Cruise and the dolphin encounters. Bring cash!!! Best dining was Pierre's mm82, Baracuda Grill,mm48, PortoCayo at Hawk's Cay. We took three kids ages 13-6 and they felt at home. Tip: Bring your motorola pagers to locate kids.

Marlene,

Okay, I will give you my review for Hawks Cay! If you like the sun, beaches, watersports, fine dining, peace and quiet, Hawks Cay is for you.
If you are looking for a laid-back resort atmosphere as well as an endless number of activities, Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key is an excellent choice. It is perfect for a family vacation, yet the resort is spread out over 60 acres, so anyone who wants peace and quiet can always find his or her little piece of paradise. Hawks Cay has a private saltwater lagoon filled with small fish and a path surrounding the lagoon where we enjoyed seeing dolphins at play. The pool is wavy in design. The Palm Terrace restaurant offers a gourmet breakfast buffet. The open-air Cantina restaurant serves Mexican and Caribbean cuisine poolside. The Waters Edge restaurant by the marina offers indoor and outdoor dining. The Porto Cayo restaurant is open for dinner only and serves Caribbean and Italian cuisine. The service at all of these restaurants kept us in a relaxed vacation mood. The Inn's rates are $195 to $315 per room in low season. The suites range from $365 to $950 in low season. The villas range from $355 to $485 in low season.

We enjoyed the cruise that was very romantic on a small catamaran. I personally admire Hawks Cay efforts to educate its visitors on Florida's ecology. Such a great appreciation and respect for marine life. I feel that this property is quite the find in years to come. Hopefully, more people will know about it, by word of mouth.
