Hawaii/Marriage Proposal

I met the woman of my dreams while I was stationed in Honolulu. Now, 4 years later we are going back for a vacation just as soon as I get home from my current deployment. Only she doesn't know that I'm planning to Propose to her while there. I'm just looking for any suggestions on where and or how to make this the perfect day for the perfect woman. Thanks...

I wouldn't propose in a restaurant.

I'd go for a romantic walk on the beach, and out of nowhere drop to my knees (getting them a little bit wet would add to the appeal) and do it

Congratulations!

If youre going to propose over dinner, I'd suggest the you make some advance preparations. Arrange with the kitchen to stick the ring on top a dessert, or inside a fortune cookie.

Attach the ring to a little drink umbrella and ask the waiter to decorate a drink with it.

Find out what size paper they use in their menus and substitute your own preprinted "menu" for theirs.

The drop-to-your-knees on the beach is nice too. Arrange to be there as the sun sets. Or, write your proposal in the sand while she isn't looking.

Arrange for a limo to pick you up before dinner and cruise around Diamond Head. Have the driverpull over at the Diamond Head lookout as the sun goes down and propose there.

Whatever you do, be sure to have a cell phone so she can call her family or best friend!

what a lucky woman.
i suggest closing your eyes and thinking of the most romantic spot or scenario you can possibly think of when it comes to Oahu....
then propose there!

congratulations and good luck
it will be perfect no matter what!

if you go with the idea of a restaurant, make sure yo have your signals correct with the waitstaff, I saw a guy really upset at Bali Hai restaurant in Kauai a couple of weeks ago because the waiter blew the surprise by asking if they wanted a bottle of champagne to celebrate....and he hadnt proposed yet! yikes, so if you involove other people... be very thorough!!!

have a great time, and congrats again!

If you drop to your knees on the beach at sunset, don't do it at Magic Island! Get a more secluded beach, maybe by Diamond Head. Where is the Cabana Seaside Grill?

I can't believe I know this and you don't, Melissa! You must have been out of town too much recently!
Cabanas is at the Kahala Hilton...little tents with deluxe dinners!

That's a great spot. I agree either before or after dinner on the beach there.

I really like the park on the way up to the diamond Head lookout off to the right that has an arch area with overgrown trees. That would be a great spot.

You made me think of a good business. I do photography on the side. I should hire out to act like a tourist in a park and then when the man purposes I could snap candid shots for them. Hum...I need to figure out how to get that going.

Best wishes on your safe return - hope she says yes.

Island mom... thats funny.. I was trying to think of how to get the "moment" photographed, or even video taped.. so she could look back on it.. or show it to her friends/family that are always wanting all the details....
I really appreciate all the ideas from everyone, they are all a great help...

I guess you could say something like let's video tape us slow dancing on the beach at sunset. Then set it up on a tripod. Or have a waiter do it for you.
