So far, good news from Kauai and "insignificant" damage at Pearl Harbor.

(update from the Today show)

While he's very informative and we all want to know everything, the weather reporter on CNN right now is really into being on camera and driving me crazy with his "drama"!

IMo the BIGGEST "danger" right now is a bunch of otherwise bored people at CNN showing the waves on the beach in Hawaii as we waited for the thing to "strike."

Appears we've missed our chance to visit La Mariana, an old-Hawaii Tiki bar, has been reported as damaged.

Report from Honolulu: Tidal surges were reported on Oahu (where Honolulu is) to be only about three feet. Maui has experienced the highest surges of about six feet. It's just getting light now, so all the damage has not been assessed yet. The "all clear" has not been sounded so we're being asked to stay off the roads and stay home. Schools are all closed today. Civil Service, the Pacific Tsunami Center, and television stations were incredibly organized and helpful. We may have dodged a bullet!

I had to laugh at a photo on this morning's Star Advertiser website - 3 people standing on the beach last night to watch the waves roll in. That's so typical - many people have become so jaded about these tsunami warnings that they do crazy things like going down to the beach, hoping to see something.

I remember the last tsunami warning - I think it was last year - they had video of people out surfing and walking on the reef while the tsunami warning was in effect.

Although I must admit that I've been at work for a couple hours already and I don't think the "all clear" has been given yet - but I'm not in an evacuation zone.

All clear reportedly just given on Oahu, on Big Island, Place of Refuge appears to have been flooded.

JohnD

Every news channel had the story early that La Mariana was destroyed.

Updated info is that is was spared and intact.

But the Keehi Marina there had many boats damaged or sunk. Apparently an entire pier complete with boats broke off. Then they acted like ping pong balls banging into other boats.

Watched the 6pm news a while ago. There must be 30-40 small boats just floating in the harbor.
