Hawaii-Pregnant-where to go?
I will be 5 or 6 months pregnant and I want to go to Hawaii. I have never been to Hawaii but my husband has. Where should we go. I think I only want to do one island for 5 or 6 days. I would like to be on the beach (possibly a beach front room that opens out to the beach.) I don't want to do a whole expect relax and enjoy the island. Any suggestions?

I'm 6 months and I'll tell you my list of where I want my husband to take me next month.
Hyatt Kauai (nice spa here) I like the view, beach and food around there.
Maybe Princeville although I do like the South Side activities this has a dramatic mountain view.
The Grand Wailea on Maui (huge spa) or most anywhere on the beach in Wailea. The Grand Wailea is "grand". I would also like to try the Four Seasons next door.
Hapuna Prince Hotel on the Big Island- very beautiful and great calm beach.
Kahala Mandarin on Oahu- luxury, cozy hotel with amazing food, dolphins, and quiet calm beach.
Turtle Bay Hilton on Oahu- isolated, pretty and relaxing.

When I was 5 1/2 months pregnant we went to Kauai and stayed at the Marriott in Lihue. I just relaxed by the beach in front of the hotel, drank Lava Flows (non-alcholic of course) and read preganacy magazines (this was my first baby). I would go swimming in the ocean and even went on a few light hikes and kayaking trips. I also go a pedicure at the spa there. I saw people get beachside massages..but didn't do it.
Kauai is a BEAUTIFUL place to relax and be pregnant in.
Tip: I also found a very cute non maturnity suit from Land's End. It was a tankini. The top is longer than most and covered my belly nicely. I can still wear the suit even now that I am not pregnant.
HAVE a wonderful time and good luck with your preganacy/baby

Just a note about pregnancy and beach vacations: when I was 6-7 months pregnant, I tried to snorkel, but couldn't manage it. The problem was that my breathing was too fast and shallow because of the baby decreasing my lung capacity. Swimming was fantastic, however. I think what you're planning sounds great, especially if you get to take a nap each day.

I am going into my 4th month and I would love to travel during the second trimester, but I am nervous about it. My doctor said not to be too far from a hospital (2 hours away). We live in nyc and I was thinking of maybe going to North Carolina, but I am open to any place. I've heard that you shouldn't go anywhere too warm since your body temperature will be much higher... Am I just a nervous mom to be?
What have any of you experienced?
Thanks!

When I was pregnant for the first time, I
travelled to Hong Kong and Bangkok at
7 months, and had no problems. Never heard of the " bodyheat issue". Of course,
I checked with my doctor first. I was in very
good health and had experienced no
complications. I would not have travelled anywhere far past that date, and it's a good thing, too - since my daughter was born 3 weeks early! IMHO, the second trimester is
a terrific time to travel - queasiness (if any), has passed, and weight gain should not yet
be an issue. Oh, I forgot - I also travelled for
two weeks to France and Austria when 5 months pregnant and never felt or looked better.

I vacationed to Hawaii when I was 5 months pregnant in October 2003. We spent 2 nights in Oahu, 6 on Kauai, and 6 on the Big Island. On Kauai, we split our time between the North Shore where we stayed at the Hanalei Bay Resort and the Sheraton Kauai in Poipu. On the Big Island we stayed at the Hapuna Prince.
I also traveled at 7 months to Grand Bahama Island this past December. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy and had no troubles on either trip. There are decent medical facilities on each of the Hawaiian islands.

JMP- Once that good feeling hits after the first trimester, I don't think there is anything that could have kept me from going going going when I was in second trimester. I went on a long driving trip and flew to several other cities and walked all over everywhere I went (esp. recall very vividly when I walked for 9 straight hours by myself in Philly one day, through all the neighborhood, from one end to the other. I dragged my husband at first and he finally got tired of traveling so I just kept going by myself! So much energy and also that feeling that I had to do it now, like it was the last chance I'd ever get. BTW- we took a driving golfing trip to North Carolina (I don't golf, couldn't have seen the ball anyway under the belly, but my husband golfs) to Winston Salem, Raleigh-Durham, etc. and loved it. Went to the Outer Banks too. Heat was never a problem for me. I think I would have been nervous leaving the U.S. but that's just me.
