Hawaii or The Caribbean? Please Help Me.
Hello everyone. I need some experienced advice on where to go for my Honeymoon. I'm thinking of either Hawaii or The Caribbean. My wife-to-be loves the sun. I'm looking for something secluded, away from the crowds. I was thinking maybe Kauai, but I would love to hear from you out there who know the best spots. I want my fiancee to have the best time of her life!!! Please help me. If you have any romantic ideas let me know.

Hi! We just returned from Maui. It was beautiful there. Although, we weren't on our honeymoon- it was very romantic at times. They have tons of things to do for honeymooners there and it's AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! I hear that Kauai is more secluded as far as that goes- but if you are planning on doing SOME activities- I suggest Maui to get the best of both being alone and getting out too! Good Luck and Congrats!

You probably want to consider what time of year you will be going. The Caribbean is not very nice in the late Spring and Summer months. But there are SO many choices... I have only been to a couple of spots, so I imagine that others will have more advice on the Caribbean than me.
As for Hawaii, I definitely, definitely recommend Kauai over all other islands. Keep in mind that the North shore, though more secluded, often gets afternoon rain showers. Poipu Beach has always been my favorite area (south shore) but it also has some action. Must-do's on Kauai are the Napili coast and Polihali Beach, my two favorites. The North Shore of Kauai has a coastline of 11 miles or so of mountains, which can only be acessed by foot or by boat - no roads at all. Personally, I always though that these secluded beaches would be the most romatic places to have a wedding, with the wedding party arriving by boat... but anyway, the hikes through this area are absolutely gorgeous. You can hike back to waterfalls, etc... it's lush, tropical, and very secluded. Fun to explore.
On the Northwest corner of the island is a hardly known but AMAZING beach, called Polihali. It is the end of the road on that side before the Napili coastline. (I hope I'm spelling these correctly) You pass the old navy base on take dirt roads all the way to the end. WIth the mountains jutting up, it makes for an incredible location. Plus, there are huge waves, which are great if you enjoy playing in the surf.
Hope this helps a little..

Kelly, above, offers sage advice about time of year. The Caribbean is great from October to April, much less great in "shoulder season," and downright awful in the summer. Hawaii, by contrast, has pleasant year-round weather.
My wife and I have vacationed in Hawaii nearly annually for the past 20 years, and we never tire of the place. But then, we go to a small, very secluded resort on the eastern end of Maui called the Hotel Hana-Maui (it draws a lot of honeymooners). The suggestion of Kona Village is also an excellen one. Kona Village is, or used to be, run by Rockresorts, and is one of the most romantic places in Hawaii.
However, I despair looking at many other parts of Hawaii, which have come to resemble Atlantic City with palm trees. Hawaii, on the whole, has done a poor job of directing development, and most people don't travel the many hours it takes to get to Hawaii in order to see Pizza Huts and McDonalds' cheek-by-jowl with their hotel.
I have been to the Caribbean less often, and have found few resorts that combine natural beauty with ambience. Too often, we feel we are unwelcome guests. One exception to this is a resort on Antigua called Curtain Bluff, which is a wonderful place in every respect.
If you are on the east coast, you may also want to consider looking at Bermuda, a charming island that makes visitors feel very welcome.

Thanks to all you out there who responded to my need. I think I'm headed to Kuaui or Maui. We're travelling sometime next summer. From all your input I guess that's not a good time to go to the Caribbean. Eventhough, my wife-to-be is from Houston and heat is really not something she minds. Is there a lot of activities to do on Kuaui, or should I stick with Maui if I'm looking for an area with a lot of activities? We're not big into the night life thing, so we're not interested in that. Mainly water sports and sights I guess. I appreciate all your time. Thanks, Shane. Where is the most romantic beach on Kuaui and on Maui? I'm just curious what you guys have to think.

Shane,
If you're looking for more activities I would recommend Maui. Not to say there aren't things to do in Kauai but I find Kauai a more relaxing laid back vacation. However there are some great hiking, kayaking and some fantastic golf courses. If you are looking for secluded beaches (in my mind romantic) then I would say north shore of Kauai during the summer is the place to be. Best beaches Big Beach-Maui (maybe the best all around beach in island chain), Larson's Beach-Kauai (very secluded, ok snorkleing), Hideaways Beach-Kauai (great snorkleing, beautiful setting), actually several great beaches along Kauai's lush north shore. If you have and specific questions feel free to email me.
