For what (honeymoon, family vacation)? When (time of year)? For whom (kids, adults, seniors) For how long? Where do you live? How can we possibly give an opinion without knowing something about you and your trip?
In general, Hawaii is a very long trip unless you live on the west coast and, imo, is not practical for a trip of a week or less.

Having been to both places, my preference would be the Caribbean. Hawaii is beautiful but it does take some time to get there and island hopping can be time consuming and expensive. One of the many things I like about the Caribbean is the diversity of the islands. There are many different cultures in a relatively small area. Of course, everyone has different interests and that is what should determine your destination.

Having been to both, I prefer the caribbean. It is closer for me (Ohio) and you get a much more exotic island feel (especially on a less developed island like St John). Many different cultures in the caribbean. Like the previous post said, Hawaii is obviously in the US and to me, it felt like it. Nothing wrong w/that, I just enjoy a more unique experience.

From what I know of both- Hawaii, because of the diversity/culture/US bit....and I have family over there. And it's simply easier for me to get to (from WA).
But the Caribbean for scuba diving and the "exotic" feel.....
So really- I think either place has the potential to be awesome- and either place has the potential to be a dreadful drag....

Ag,
In your first post, sounds like you have been to the Caribbean. In the second, sounds like you have not. If not, hope you check it out sometime. I love Hawaii but the Caribbean is so different than Hawaii. Also, you don't have to island hop to have a fantastic time.

Both my brothers prefer the Caribbean. As for me, I've only been to Hawaii. If you havn't been to either, then I would figure you have to start somewhere, so if it were me, I'd take the one easiest to get to, and where I would get the most bang for my buck.

Caribe is better, but it really depends on where you are traveling from. The beaches are wonderful and they are the reason for going, no? I live on the West Coast and I think twice before heading for the Caribbean- it's a huge hassle. HI is a very easy place to visit - but too far if you are from the East coast areas. my opinion. You really can't go wrong. Choose what is easiest!

We live in California. I prefer Hawaii as it's easier to get to. My husband prefers the Caribbean because he is a biologist and he says there isn't much native flora left in Hawaii which makes him sad.
I think if you live on the east coast the Caribbean is better and if you live on the west coast Hawaii is better!

Both places are beautiful. Although i haven't been to the Caribbean i would say Hawaii. Hawaii is "the" place...there are so much different attractions- volcanoes, hikes, biking, beaches, good food, historic sites, ...check out this site www.tripcart.com if you need ideas for specific attractions in Hawaii
(this is the specific hawaii page: http://www.tripcart.com/Search.aspx?Mode=Map&R=Hawaii)
good luck- enjoy yourself either way

My husband has been to Hawaii twice. Having honeymooned in the British Virgin Islands (heaven) he says he doesn't care about returning to Hawaii. A lot depends on what you enjoy on vacation and what time of year you are there. I don't like the heavily touristed parts of the Caribbean where there are thousands of cruise ship passengers. Then, my parents couldn't get over the throngs of Japanese tourists in Hawaii last year. I'm sure you can find a slice of heaven at either.
