Hawaii, Lahaina

We're planning a stay at a hotel four miles north of the town of Lahaina. Understand that parking is a problem in town.... and we enjoy walking. Is Honoapiilani Highway pedestrian friendly? Alternatively, is there safe parking within a mile or two of town leaving a easy walk in?

thanks

No, Honoapiilani Highway is absolutely not pedestrian friendly. Parking in Lahaina itself is not a difficult task. You may have to drive around a little bit, but you should be able to find a spot without too much effort. You may also find that you have better luck just parking your car in the lot.

I would not recommend at all that you park a mile or two away from town and try to walk in. This would be extremely unpleasant and unsafe!!

If you enjoy walking, you should park your car at the Hyatt and take the beachfront boardwalk to the Sheraton (about 1 mi) and beyond. That offers a safe long path to walk on with a great view (and with lots of restaurants and shops to offer a distraction if you need it).

Walking along the highway is a terrible idea. Not all pedestrian friendly.

There are multiple paid public parking lots in Lahaina. If you leave early, you should have no problem finding a parking space.

Just drive all the way into Lahaina. You'll be able to find a place to park. It's no big deal.

For a fun walk in Lahaina, pick up the map that shows a self-guided walking tour around the historic buildings.

As an alternative, you can take the Maui Bus. There should be a bus stop near your condo or hotel that you can take to Whalers Village, and transfer there to another bus that runs to Lahaina town.

The highway is not a good place to walk. You may have some difficulty finding a parking space on Front Street but there are numerous paid parking lots on side streets and we have always found parking there.
