Hawaii in early November??

Hi,

I hate to post another "when should I go message but...." My dilemma is, I'm using frequent flyer miles to get myself and my husband to Hawaii and I'm finding that we're already limited as to when we can go. We went 2 1/2 years ago for our 5th anniversary at the end of November beginning of December and we were there for a little over two weeks. We had the worst weather!! The only day it was nice was the day we arrived but unfortunately we were too tired to enjoy it after our 12 hour flight. I know that November/December is considered Hawaii's rainy season but still, we did expect to have a few nice days. It rained every single day and I'm not talking just showers. I know it was probably a fluke, maybe an El-Nino or La-Nina thing but now we're a bit gun shy to repeat going back even though I'm talking about going the last week in October and the first week in November. Has anyone been at this time and what was the weather like? We do have the option of going in September but from everything I read, it's supposedly really hot and we HATE the heat so I'm reluctant to do that.

Any suggestions?
Thank you.

If you hate heat so much, maybe you should go to central or S. CA instead: Mild weather, nice coast and scenery.

Chelsea,
I was in Wailea, Maui this past year from Dec. 5 - 17th and the weather was wonderful!! It was truly perfect. I will probably visit again next year at the same time. I had been there mid Sept. - early October and while the weather was good then, it was even better in Dec.

Chelsea - your weather was a fluke. I lived in Hawaii for five years, so I know the weather there pretty well. November is more likely than, say, May to have rainy weather, but overall the risk is low. Hawaii's weather is generally good all year long. There are random periods when it just rains for days in a row, but those are few and far between. Plus, I think those rainy periods tend to happen more in December, January and February. Anyway, if you're concerned about rain, you should probably go to a part of Hawaii that is less likely to get rain. As you may already know, Kauai is known to be the rainiest island. Maui and the Big Island are more likely to be drier than the other islands. There are always exceptions to the rule, of course. Good luck!

You know that saying "When it rains, it pours?" That's how it is when we have freak weather in Hawaii. It will rain cats & dogs for an entire WEEK (or in your case, two). Or we'll get a hurricane. Or we'll have an outrageous heat wave for a week. But for the most part, aside from Acts Of God, we have great weather all around.

November IS considered hurricane season, but usually it's very nice.

We have been to Maui the second week of November, also, the second week of December - the weather was beautiful everyday. It is always beautiful in Hawaii.

We were in Hawaii the 1st 2 weeks in November, 1998. With a little planning, you'll be fine. On Maui, we stayed in Wailea and had no rain. It's the dryer side of the island. We ventured up to Lahaina a few times and experienced several showers.

On Kauai, we stayed in Poipu. A few showers there but nothing like the rain in the mountains and on the north side of the island.

If you're concerned about rain, plan your travel to the drier sides of the islands (the south side). But how bad can it be...a rainy day in Maui is better than a rainy day in Kansas City anytime!
