Hawaii for one week in mid March

Planning to fly to Maui and spend 4 nights at Fairmont Kea Lani. Would like to do whale watching, Old Lahaina Luau and drive to Hana. Then fly to Kauai and spend 2 nights at Sheraton (Poipu beach).
Would like to take a helicopter tour. Will have a rental car. Any suggestion and advice greatly appreciated.

I'd skip the 2 nights in Kauai w. helicopter tour and give Kauai an entire week in another trip.

But I like relaxing vacations, poking around the beaches and little towns.

With only 6 days I also would not try to do 2 islands.

We spent 5 nights the first week of April a few years back in the condos just to the south of the Fairmont, and I liked the area. Particularly the walkway along the coast there, as I enjoy walking. I saw many whales, some breaching, while out for a stroll.
If you choose to just do Maui (and I agree you could save a lot of travel and do Kauai next time), we enjoyed an overnight stay in Hana. It's very relaxed and quiet over there unlike the other side, and the drive to Hana and back makes for a long day-trip.

Have to agree with everyone about the 2 island issue as there is sooooooo much to see and enjoy without trying to pack it all in to just a short time frame. Each island could easily enthrall you if you only spent a week on each. As to the helicopter idea... ABSOLUTELY AND EMPHATICALLY, HECK YES!!!! I have taken a helicopter flight on each of the islands and will suggest to you it is an experience that you will NEVER forget!

Hello

We went to Maui last March and did whale watching and the Road to Hana. We (family of four, including a 5 year old and a 2 year old) did our whale watch trip with Pacific Whale Foundation and saw lots and lots of whales on the way out and back in.

We also did the Road to Hana - it was very pretty and took an entire day. My husband and older daughter had fun popping into the various pools along the way. The drive back seemed long, especially since dusk was approaching. Probably should've headed back a bit quicker!

Have a great time.
