Hawaii at Christmas -- best weather location?

which part of each island would you think might have the best weather (least amount of rain) during the christmas holiday season?

we plan to do a trip with another family over christmas, but none of us have been to hawaii at any time other than summer.

we were first thinking of renting a house in kailua in oahu (which we've done before in summer and had lots of rain), but are also open to maui or the big island or kauai.

we'll be looking for a house to rent for 8 people, so the combination of a great house and the least chance of very rainy weather will probably be a deciding factor on where we choose.

we know all the islands are beautiful and have a lot to offer.

any information on this will be greatly appreciated!! thanks so much.

dina

(i posted this earlier without mentioning the word "hawaii" -- duh!!)

As a rule, the North side should get the most rain in each Island during winter. Kauai will get the most rain, whereas the Kohala Coast of the big Island should get the least. No matter where you choose, you should expect some rain

The west/south sides of the islands will have the best chance for dry sunny weather:

Maui- Kihei, Wailea, Makena
Kauai- Poipu
Hawaii- Kona, Kohala, Waikoloa

The water is not bathtub warm in Hawaii in winter. It is swimmable, but I find it a bit chilly for long snorkeling.

Big, nice, affordable, house on the beach, Christmas--- That's going to be a challenge.

Some of the best beachfront houses I've seen on VRBO are already rented for next Christmas.
