Have you just returned from Vegas??
I am flying out to Las Vegas in two days. I would like to know what the mood is like out there. Are people coming back? Also, what is the airport like? I have heard that there is a 4 hour wait to get thru security. Does it depend on the airline or is this for wait for all carriers? Thanks for your help.

Hi Kathy..if you are coming in for the weekend Las Vegas is pretty much back to normal. Last weekend a couple of strip hotels were sold out and the rest were at 93% capacity. You have picked a perfect time to come here. Weather for the weekend is predicted to be in the mid 80's. Perfect! Now as far as the airport..last weekend Southwest, America West and National airlines all had 3-4 hour lines for checking in. Have a great time while visiting our city and enjoy!

We just got back on Tuesday and did not see much of an extra delay unless you are trying to fly back home on Sunday. Sunday (when we arrived) the entire front of the airport sidewalk (dropoff area) was packed with people checking in. We asked the shuttle driver and he confirmed that Sunday was the worst day to try to be flying out of Vegas right now.
We flew in on Sunday and out on Tuesday with no problems. If you are arriving on Saturday and leaving after Sunday you probably won't have much delay. If you are flying home on Sunday, be ready to wait.
As far as the mood, it's pretty much fine. Several hotels have flags hanging and flash a "God Bless America" message on their signs but otherwise, it really doesn't look any different.
Have fun!

We were out to Las Vegas the weekend of Sept. 22 and it was a lot of fun, with a lot of great deals to be had. Much of that is evaporating as life returns to normal. As for lines, keep in mind that many may be airline-specific. Security is a bit of a bottle-neck, but they ARE processing people and the lines DO move in that area. Perhaps you can get some advice locally when you arrive that would help you figure out how much time to allow on your return. Have a great time!

just got back yesterday...very long lines checking luggage in Vegas..we only had carry-on so only had to wait thru security line which was about a block long but moved very quickly..and as for "security"....leaving, I walked right thru the detector with my cell phone in my pocket,,didnt notice much differance than before in way of searches..coming back, they did check my carry on for explosive residue thru there machine but didnt have me open it...casinos were not as crowded as they have been in the past,,and yes, many had the flag on there signs..with God bless America...

Ummm....maybe the irony stems from the fact that classical Judeo-Christian teaching holds that God frowns on gambling?
So placing a sign on a gambling establishment asking for God's blessing would be somewhat ironic.
Hello?
Anyone home?
(My point is not to condemn gambling, BTW. I simply stated that the signage mentioned is ironic. Which it is).
