haunted castles/mansions

Does anyone know of any haunted castles or mansions in the San Diego/L.A. area (or any place with a story behind it worth visiting)? I will have a car and I'll be in that area from May 20-27.

I don't believe in Spirits or astrology but that's a whole other story. Anyway, I now the QE2 in Long Beach has room or or two that they will no longer let guests spend the night in. The story goes that they have had too many visitors claim to have seen something? I blamed it on the alcohol but that's just me.

Emily,
It's not a castle or mansion, but the Horton Grand Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter has a haunted room. It's a nice, victorian hotel in a great location. It might be worth checking out.

Emily, there are many books available on this subject. I realize you're running out of time, but if you go to Barnes and Noble's Web site at www.bn.com or Amazon at www.amazon.com and do a keyword search on the word "haunted," you're likely to come up with some books that include places in southern California. Here are a few I came up with when I tried this on B&N's site:

"Historic Haunted America" and "Haunted America," both by Michael Norman and Beth Scott

"Haunted Houses: Chilling Tales from American Homes" by Nancy Roberts

"The Mammoth Book of Haunted House Stories" by Peter Haining (Editor)

"The Field Guide to North American Hauntings: Everything You Need to Know about Encountering over 100 Ghosts, Phantoms, and Spectral Entities" by W. Haden Blackman

Good luck, and enjoy your trip!

In SD, there's the Hotel Del Coronado which has one room supposedly haunted. There's also another hotel in downtown SD, but I can't remember the name. Bubba's right: also check out the Queen Mary ship in Long Beach. They have a 'ghost tour' which will describe what sightings have taken place. I think you can find more information on their website.
