I agree with an earlier post, Maui is the greatest getaway but after 10 days, I am ready to get back to the real world. It doesn't take long though to get that itching to go back. I can't imagine anyone not having a great time while on Maui or any of the other islands.

Count my wife and I in the daydreamers club. We started saving for our next trip the day we returned from our last. The disgruntled guy may have spent all of his time in Waikiki, which was not my favorite either and did not represent what Hawaii is truly about.

We all have different opinions. Why is so hard to believe that my wife and I did not like Hawaii? Now I'm called a liar and told that we are only jealous because we probably can't afford to go to Hawaii? Get real. The coconut art I refer to were whole coconuts painted with beach scenes on them and a place to address them and actually send them through the mail as a "postcard". It just got our vote as the tackiest thing we ever saw. Both in Honolulu and Maui we were stopped everytime we left the hotel or wandered the streets by sales people for time shares. I can't believe that no one else has encountered that. I guess it was just so annoying because they would come up and get all involved in a conversation like "haven't I seen you before" or "you look like someone who appreciates good value". To top it off it was hot and humid while we were there. Everybody kept saying, "the weather is never like this -- this is so unusual", but it was just what we've always hated about visiting Florida in the summertime.

I have to agree somewhat with can'tbelieveit. Parts we visited were wonderful, Maui, Kauai...but Oahu was in our opinion, close to the way he describes it. It was so commercial, crowded and full of terribly rude Japanese business owners. I really don't care if I ever go back to Oahu. We had no problems on Maui with being hassled and I thought it was a pretty nice island, as was Kauai, but find I can get the same out of the Caribbean and it's a shorter flight.

Alohaitis affects our entire family. First my folks who NEVER go anywhere twice bought a timeshare on Kauai and go religiously for two weeks per year. Then they took our family in '99, and now I'm sitting here in my office with "Kauai Countdown" on my desk calendar (119 days and 12 hours) and a Humuhumunukunukuapuaa necklace on that I never take off. Our three year old WAILED "I don't wanna leave!" at the airport and had to be strapped into the plane to SFO against her will. You'd have thought we were kidnapping her. Congratulations, you're addicted; it's useless to resist!

What do you mean "again" ? I've never responded to a Hawaii posting before. Perhaps there's been another "Toogood" ?
( perhaps more people would post with their real names if it wasn't for all the "get a life" crap that gets thrown at them ). I'm sure Hawaii is a nice place but all this "I just had an orgasm thinking about Hawaii..." stuff seems a little over the top.

Yes, Hawaii is lovely. However, Mexico is lovely too, and Arizona and California. Jeeze. Get a life people.
Lots of places in the world are magical, and the magic of Hawaii is starting to wear off when the prices for a hotel or condo keep going up astrinomically thanks to all the "dot-commers" driving the prices of everything special up, up and away.
Hawaii has much to be appreciated and I do like it. However, I'm wondering how many of those that are raving incessantly about Hawaii have actually been to many other great travel destinations, and if so I'd love to hear
it. I personally like the prices in Mexico a lot better, i.e., hotels and food. However, I am hearing that some of the resorts in Mexico are also getting too pricy.

for some reason, it sickens and disgusts me. The more I come to this forum and see so much bogus talk about Maui and Hawaii, the less I think of that beautiful island. it's a shame so many travel agents have so many agendas and want to sell so many tickets under the veil of loving a beautiful state like Hawaii.

Relax some of you. I posted this question because I just returned from my honeymoon and wanted to express that I thought it was wonderful to be there and that I still think a lot about the place, and I was wondering if anyone else had these feelings after visiting there. That is all. I honestly enjoyed many of these posts because it made me feel good to know that there were others having the same feelings as I. I knew that there would be some people w/ nothing better to do trying to knock everything that was said and do the usual travel agent comments and I'm hoping that some of you certainly have better things to do with your time in the future. I loved Hawaii and thought that the place was magical and hope to return there as much as possible. I'm sure others have similar feelings about other places on this earth. It just so happens that I had an almost undescribable experience while being there. That certainly doesn't make me a travel agent. However, if each of you knocking this post would like to send me some money for my comments, that would be greatly appreciated! Aloha all of you who feel as I and please continue to post about your experiences. It makes my day.

I'm glad you like Hawaii and appreciate its beauty. There really is something different about this place. I've never encountered timeshare sales people, tacky coconuts, or rude Japanese salespeople, but I guess I don't hang out in those areas. For those who have had bad experiences...it's a shame they never got to see the wonderful things that Hawaii has to offer.

Respect the 'aina and the 'aina will be good to you. Looking forward to your return.

It's good that not everyone catches the aloha spirit. It's great that some get caught in Waikiki, or as I affectionately call it, "Why-kuh-kuh", and other touristy areas so that they go home and tell others it's not so great in Hawaii. It's great that they missed the natural wonders and beauty to be found out of the city and in the hiking trails in beautiful rainforests, boating/flying along striking coastlines, swimming in the pools below gorgeous waterfalls, exploring hidden beaches, etc, etc, etc,. It's wonderful that they haven't had that spiritual exerience that Hawaii has offered to many of us. Because Hawaii isn't big enough for everyone, and there are many kinds of people with many kinds of tastes. Count me in as one who has been bitten by the Hawaii bug and smitten forever with the beauty and deep spirituality of the place. When I go there, I feel as if I have returned home, from aimless wandering in the rat race. For those who feel beckoned by the same spirit, I am happy for you. I know how you feel. For those who can't relate - that's fine - perhaps you'll find your spot somewhere else on earth. For me, Hawaii will always be a special place.

Hello Mahalo
Aloha!!
Don't feel bad. We just returned from Maui on Friday, Oct. 27th and can't get Maui off our minds. We are on the verge of booking another vacation next year. We are dreaming about Maui and listening to waterfall/Ocean cd's... We definetly have the Hawaii Syndrome. We are not the same since Maui. We flew 10 hours to Hawaii from Michigan and that didn't it bother us to bad... We are sooooo ready to go back. We keep looking at our pictures and reminising about Maui.. We were only there for six days which wasn't long enough, and we only encountered 1 person on Front Street who offered us a timeshare. That's ALL!! (No big deal like the other posters were complaining about) Hawaii is sooo beautiful!!! I miss it.. People are friendly even the visitors. I know how you feel...Hopefully will get back there soon!!!

Dear Mahalo,

Many people have felt as you do after returning from Hawaii. I hope you get to go back soon. I have only been to Hawaii once - many years ago, but we were in Tahiti last spring and I think I feel about those islands the way you do about Hawaii.

Please ignore the negative responses you have received. You can tell by the writing and how certain things consistently upset him/her that these posts are all from the same poor soul. I truly hope he/she gets some professional help soon.
