Has anyone stayed in Hilton Head?
We are thinking of going to Hilton Head for a long weekend at the end of June. What is the weather like that time of year? Also any suggestions for places to stay. It is our anniversary so we would like something very romantic and luxurious. Is there alot to do there? Thanks in advance.

We were at Hilton Head a couple of years ago in August. In June the weather should be very nice and it probably will not be as crowded then as in August. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Resort (a 4 diamond) hotel and it was terrible. Whatever you do, do not stay there. The grounds are beautiful, but the service is horrible. Our room was terribly dirty. When we pulled down the bedspreads to get into bed the first night we were there we saw the sheets were dirty and had not even been changed from the previous occupants. There was makeup on the pillowcases and cracker crumbs on the sheets and drops of blood on the underside of the bedspread! YUCK!!! Of course we complained loudly and would have changed hotels, but it was peak season and the island was sold out. They came and totally re-cleaned the room, but the damage was already done. First impressions, you know! I hear the Westin is very nice and they have some great rates-- $140's for island view and 170's for ocean view, etc. (unless they are already sold out) . The Hilton is also very nice. The other problem with the Crowne Plaza was the pool was closed several days we were there because of problems with a pump or filter. I think it is a very poorly managed facility. When we wrote to complain we never heard a word in response from them, so evidently they do not care. Have a fun time. It is a very nice resort with lovely bike paths, wonderful golfing and good restaurants. I am sure you will enjoy it there. Any other questions, feel free to e mail me. Tammy

Maybe it's something about Hilton Head, but the Westin was also filthy when we stayed there about 3 years ago. It's a 5 diamond and 5 star hotel, but we moved out after one night. They changed our room twice and finally ended up giving us the room at no charge. There were bugs in the rooms, coffee drippings down the front of the minibar, several hairs in the basket holding the shampoo, torn carpeting and stains on the spreads. Totally disgusting! We figured that neither AAA or Mobil had visited the property in some time because it certainly did not deserve the high ratings. Other than the hotel, we liked Hilton Head a lot and hope to return. There are some wonderful restaurants and good galleries and shops. Hope you have a good trip.

I have stayed in Hilton Head 3 times, once at Crowne Plaza, once at the Hilton and once at Sea Pines resort in a condo. My favorite was the condo. My husband and I stayed 3 nights in a beautiful condo at a fraction of the cost of the hotels, and had special golf time privilages and free tennis. We were a short walk from the ocean. Hilton Head is a great place if you are active. There is roller blading on the bike paths, biking, tennis and golf. The beach sand is hard and you can bike on the beach.

Have stayed in Hilton Head and found the Westin wonderful. A great place if you want luxury. Also, they have a great seafood buffet, a bit pricey, but worth it. There is great shopping on the 13 mile long island with discount strip malls, tastefully done, at either end. Some great restaurants right along the main road that runs down the center of the island-can't get lost. Golfing is the main activity but others as well as described in other responses. Suggest you get info off the internet as to weather, activities, etc. Much of Hilton Head you don't see from the road- you must go into one of the Plantations-(or entrances) to the ocean views. There are also reasonably priced hotels like the Fairfield. Good luck!
