Has anyone been to Cripple Creek,CO?

We plan on spending a day and night in Cripple Creek ,CO at the end of June and wanted to get some input on the area and things to do there. We are a family of 4(including our two teen daughters.

I was there once, after driving out on the Gold Camp Road. The main thing we saw that was interesting was the inside of a mine. I don't know how it is now, but the old rule was no women in a mine.
The one we visited is a tourist gold mine, double meaning intended, that might give you a chance to see what life was like in the mines. The drills were not called widow makers for nothing.

If you like the Western bar scene, you should have a few places to visit.

Strange your first reply didn't mention that Cripple Creek is also a gamblin' town! Many establishments along Main Street have been converted into casinos and your teenagers may have to entertain themselves if the adults decided to throw a few coins away.

Cripple Creek is now basically a gambling town. Unless that's your 'hobby', don't bother. All old 'charm' is gone. Best thing about it is drive from Cannon City via Phantom Canyon Road (not for those with fear of narrow, high places) & on to Colorado Springs via Old Gold Camp Road. Lots more to do & see in & around Colorado Springs.

Larry is correct: as they do in every town they invade, the casinos have destroyed any reason to visit this town other than throwing your money away. The drives to and out of this town (Old Gold Camp Road and Phantom Canyon Road) are spectacular, but not for the faint of heart and should NEVER be driven in bad weather.
