Happy Lei Day!

May 1 is Lei Day in Hawaii with lots of festivities and an annual lei contest. There is entertainment at Kapiolani Park, at the far end of Waikiki. The lei are exhibited there as well. The weather is usually good at this time of year, but we may have rain this year. It's still warm when it rains, though, so it could still be pleasant unless there is thunder and lightning!

Just had a Hawaiian themed 80th BDay part for my Dad at his ranch in Wyoming. He spent several happy years in Hawaii working for Fed Govt and really enjoyed it.

Mail ordered beautiful leis over from Gecko Farms: very lovely green, and sanded cream color kukui with rings of miniture cowry shells, Ti and puple dendrobian and for me white tuberose. They were packed and arrived fresh & lovely.

Also shipped in a pineapple and macadamia nut BDay cake from Kona Kakes in San Diego (great job and extra effort to pack/mail order).

Also had L & L mail order some food in from their Colorado Springs franchise: we were their 1st mail oeder customers and it was fabulous to see my Dad eat his Kim chee as well as the Korean BBQ ribs, Teri chicken and Kalua Pork.

I have pics of my Dad hanging his lei from the Moose antlers..he is a happy guy!!!

1JAR, what a thoughtful way to celebrate that milestone birthday for you dad. He will always treasure it.

Another month to wait for our trip to Oahu.

Hi, 1JAR, I so remember your thread about ideas on how to celebrate your dear father's 80th Birthday. You obviously did a fantastic job of making his birthday celebration a very happy and festive occassion. May he have many more years of a joyous and healthy life!

The weather was a little overcast, but dry. The Hawaiian entertainment was continuous. Nice crowds. Not as many lei exhibited as I remember in years past. Small craft fair.

Everyone's invited to next year's Lei Day celebration!
