Hanalei Bay Resort vs Sheraton

Hi! Thanks to everyone who reponds to posts - they have helped me a great deal.
My fiance and I are going to Hawaii for our honeymoon next June and spending five nights on Maui at the Renaissance Wailea and five nights on Kauai, but can not decide on a hotel. Right now we are torn between the Sheraton and Hanalei Bay Resort. Please don't tell me to pick the Princeville Resort, Hyatt, or Marriott for they are too expensive for us. Having the beach right there is not of big concern to us as we are from Florida. However, I would love to have spectacular views, especially of the ocean. I realize that the Hanalei has great views of Hanalei bay and the ocean, but the beach is a small hike. Again, no big deal... I have read quite a few negatives on both hotels as well as quite few positives.
Can anyone help us out here??
Thanks in advance!
Erica

We've been to Hanalei Bay Resort and also,on a previous occasion, stayed in Poipu. I would choose the Sheraton even though the views are more dramatic on the north shore. My reason - H B R is set in lush tropical grounds and is very pretty but, there are lots of gekkos. Many people like these little things running around the ceiling of their rooms - I do not. Plus, it was always a long walk to the pool, the parking lot and the beach. The latter was uphill on the way back. Because this was a dark narrow path it did not lend itself to walks early evening nor late evening. We very much liked the location of the Sheraton with it's oceanside pool. Lastly, it is certainly much less rainy in Poipu, but that may not matter to you folks from Fla.

June,
Thanks for your help. I think tonight we finally came to a conclusion where we can get the best of both worlds, at reasonable prices. We will stay 2 nights at the Hanalei and then 3 nights at Gloria's Spouting Horn B&B near Poipu. Again, thanks for your help.

Stayed at Gloria's on our honeymoon and on our First Anniversary. It is wonderful. The scenery is gorgeous as you are right on the water. The sound of the waves crashing and the breeze make you sleep like a baby at night. Gloria is a gourmet cook. We stayed in an upstairs room on the left (there are only three rooms. Although the downstairs room in the so called honeymoon suite.l The upstairs has the better view. Have dinner one night at the Beach House which is right down the road. Gloria will make reservations foryou. I twas very good.
