Hamptons
Will be going to the hamptons for a short stay at the end of April. Was considering the 1770 house to stay. Has anyone been their? Also, what restaurants will be open in April? Upscale. Also would like nice casual lunch places with atmosphere. Thank you!

The 1770 House should be nice. Have you checked tripadvisor for reviews?
Most all the restaurants are open. The 1770 House has it's own rest. that's supposed to be good. I've had brunch there and found it good but a bit precious and formal. Nick & Toni's (Mediterranean and brick oven pizza- (the celeb hangout in the summer) and Della Femina's (new American) are considered the best and most upscale in or near East Hampton and are both in town but on North Main St.--not the main part of town. You definitely need reservations for a weekend.
JR Bistro just outside of town is also very good. For a nice lunch in town, Cittenuevo on Newtown Lane is nice. The Maidstone Arms just next to 1770 House has a restaurant too that I find uneven, but it's got a nice New Englandy atmosphere and can be a nice, if staid place for lunch.
If you're interested in checking out one of the other towns for lunch, there are several places in Bridgehampton that are good; Pierre's for bistro food, Bobby Vans has a bit of everything as does World Pie. The American Hotel in Sag Harbor is always nice, especially if it's warm enough to sit on their porch for lunch.

The best seafood places are the shacky ones on or near the beach and those are mostly not open yet. Cyril's on the Napeague stretch before you get to Montauk is excellent but not yet open.
If you want lobster, clams etc. you could take a drive out to Montauk and go to Gosman's which is a big well known place on the water at the marina. It would be a half hour drive from East Hampton.
If you want lobster rolls or mussels, some of the regular restaurants have good offerings. Nichols, just outside East Hampton and across from JR has very decent mussels. They also make a nice lobster pot pie. Bobby Vans in Bridgehampton has a good lobster roll served in a tortilla.
